Is an electric gooseneck kettle just that?

There seems to be enormous variance on the cost of these things. I can see the benefits of having a kettle that allegedly holds its temperature as after all that is a vital part of any brewed recipe. The cheapest I can see without looking too hard is from Tesco for £35

dfk41 I have “on the Hob” gooseneck kettle. I always take it off full boil for brews. It’s going steady during the last 4 years. 😊

LMSC Same here (a Hario Buono I have had for over a decade, I also have an electric Buono but it’s sat unused for some years, in favour of a Sage compact for general hot drink duties).

I have a stagg and previously had a brewista, with the stagg you’re paying substantially more for a better built and nicer looking kettle with lots of unnecessary features. It might be slightly more accurate or energy efficient but it won’t make the coffee taste any better so if those don’t matter to you just go cheaper.

I have a stagg and while it is good, the “push” element of the button can be fussy and it needs a firm press, otherwise it won’t turn on/off. Annoys me occasionally

MWJB Hario Buono I have had for over a decade,

When I tried getting V60 right a a few years back - I was having issues using that Kettle. I think I chatted to you Mark and, if memory serves me right, you mentioned that that particular kettle has a spout that is slightly too aggressive - in the sense that it would be good if it was restricted a bit. Is this right? I’m assuming this is your go-to kettle for brewed coffee.

MediumRoastSteam I don’t think that was me. I have never restricted my Buonos.

I have had Tiamo kettles with a thinner gooseneck, I find these a bit too slow and can easily average 1g/s with the Buonos.

Not overfilling the kettle helps to control slower pours.
