Variations with same bean

I wondered how many times folks had bought a bean, really enjoyed it then the ordered more only to find it not up to the same standard? I know roasters tell us they have systems and logs but so what!

Next question is this. Thinking back how many times have you bought a bean based on the tasting notes only to receive and sample and wonder if the roaster is on the same planet as you. Also turn that around, and you buy on the descriptor only to find it bang on!

I don’t see absolute consistency from roast to roast, in a sensory aspect. Not sure it is possible, irrespective of what the objective roast figures are.

If it’s a roaster that has had realistic notes in the past, then occasional deviations can be forgiven.

Occasionally, yes, I wonder how they formulate the notes (passed down from the importer, cupping, some wildly unusual brew method)?

I haven’t bought coffee for years but I always found the description from Dark Arts spot on. I also had a coffee from a local coffee shop I think was from Module or Scenery that was spot on too.

I remember the tasting notes from coffee compass and Rave being hit and miss – Rave more miss.

Cartwheel accurate but more of “I can see why they say that” rather than I can list the flavours before reading the notes.

HasBean total miss.

Only ever had Funka from Extract but that was pretty accurate.

I used to really enjoy HasBean up until the Summer of 2017, not so much after that.
