Back in 2015 (I think), this was a Kickstarter project that I backed. It was quite expensive. Mark Folker was an Australian designer. The idea was you could either stick a V60 paper in or use it a bit like an Aeropress. It had a sort of pf handle that allowed you to release the liquid. The Mark One had a flaw that the release twist was quite difficult to work. The second version had a twist action in the pf handle.

The item was a pleasure to use and looks a million dollars. One popped up on Ebay this week and it reminded me that I had one somewhere. I went into the loft and for a change it was exactly where I expected it to be, meaning I could reach it without leaving the loft stairs. I washed it and will definitely play with it. I might have to watch a few videos first to remind me though!

The plunger weighs in at 3 kilos and I always used the ‘plunge’ method.

I made a brew with it last night. Not to drink (but I had a sip) as it was too late on. It is a long time since I last used it and my memory is unreliable. Mine is the Mk1. You put an aeropress paper into the plastic pf, wet it and insert closing the valve. In went 18 gms of coffee. Put an estimated 50 or 60 mls water in to bloom for 30 seconds then topped it up to an estimated 220 mls or so. The unit is too big for the scales that I have. Leave it for another 2 minutes then open the valve. It took about 45 seconds to drawdown.

The Mk2 is better because the pf handle has a twist action allowing you to open and control the valve. I am guessing why after several years this product vanished. Looks stunning, not that difficult to use but does it do anything any better than other brewers?

Maybe try grinding coarser (say 12 o’clock, or 1 o’clock on the Ode), 150ml water (pre weigh into your gooseneck?), break crust at 1:15, open valve at 1:30.
