I did a bit of research, besides Kopi Luwak and Jamaican Blue Mountain, mentioned before, there are a few more:

Black Ivory for about £1000-1,500/kg and you get to experience coffee digested by elephants (kind of like Kopi Luwak)
Finca El Injerto - £3-400/kg

I would be interested to hear if anyone has paid £100 or more for a kilo themselves. I bought 200 gms at Zennor that was £23.50 I think. I then went on to buy a kg of the same but they applied a discount and it came out at around £65…..still, that is an awful lot to pay to be dissapointed. The first lot was stunning, thr kilo a pale imitation

dfk41 I’ve had Kopi Luwak a couple of times. Compared to commodity/supermarket coffee & other origins from the same roasters, it was pleasant in a rounded, smooth, refined kind of way, no harsh edges. Pretty much any decent light to medium, specialty Kenyan is preferable to me, but as with JBM (which I remember buying in Safeway £25/250g in the 1990s/early 2000s), there is ‘something’ to it.

MWJB I was gifted some 10 years or so ago as a birthday present but I could not bring myself to drink it! I think I read how from the original concept it had grown to a cottage industry whereby the caught and caged them, feeding them only on coffee cherries. I must be getting soft in my old age! That said I watched a video on English supermarket sausages and trust me there were two brands that passed the test (Heck 97% meat and the best Aldi one), 3 more that had a meat content of 90%. Amongst the worst performers were Richmond on 42% meat content and they are brand leaders!

Of course, these ones are only available in Scotland but they do have a 97% English equivalent. You will just have to check the labels

dfk41 Many years ago I remember a thing in the local paper, someone had been caught palming off 23% meat sausages, the article went on to indignantly state that the great British banger needs to be at least 27% meat! :-)

LMSC it was a record-breaking score, from memory I think 4 out of 6 judges gave it the perfect 100/100 score, and a roaster/cafe in Dubai (of course) bought most of it, drove the scarcity further.
the most expensive coffee I also bought was about 40EUR/kg for green, but have not made that order …

Talking of pricey coffee, has anyone tried resting Scenery coffee for the 4 weeks it recommends?

I’m quite keen to try their Buena Vista Gesha as I’ve just had two genuinely fantastic Ethiopian coffees from them. But they say best at 4 weeks and I’m curious if it makes a noticeable difference.
