Living here in North Yorkshire my house backs on to an open field the river Ouse then more open fields so we are very exposed. But the worst that happened to us was my water butt blew over and that was only because it was empty, as I had disconnected it from the shed downpipe and emptied it before winter set in to stop any water inside freezing and splitting it. Yet two doors down, all eight of a neighbours fence panels blew down.
Funny how daan saaaf where I come from, they always say ’it’s grim up north’ but I can honestly say in the 30 plus years I have lived up here, as far as snow and ice and such, I can count on one hand the amount of times it has been even slightly inconvenient. I think it may be because we live in the vale of York…flatter than Holland and surrounded by the dales and moores protecting us.
