I'm a jaded user of another forum, that needed a change 😆

Up until recently I was only marginally aware that there were people on the internet who chatted about coffee stuff all the time. I'm now over two and a half grand down and it's all your fault. 😅

I'm not saying I'm paranoid or anything, but a few weeks ago I walked into a coffee forum, pulled up a chair and sat down; everyone else seemed to get up and walk out! 😆 My coffee journey started over 40 years ago when my wife bought me a Gran Gaggia for Christmas. That was before the internet was invented, so there was no information freely available about the need for a grinder. I made a mess and a lot of terrible coffee. I got into stove top coffee makers through a Romanian student I befriended, we drank a lot of good coffee together before he moved on. My wife decided we should buy an induction hob, so that put an end to my stove top coffee making and I switched to french press. After breaking the glass of my favourite press I decided to try one of those gimmicky Aeropress thingies; that was a real eye-opener for me and started to buy speciality coffee beans and a Baratza Encore. A couple of years ago I retired and started volunteering in a charity shop where I saw a La Pavoni Europiccola. Nobody seemed to know what it was, so I got it at a very agreeable price. I invested in a Eureka Mignon Specialita to feed the LP and have become obsessed with the coffee making process.

On the other forum too(BadBoyR), don't participate much, just been busy reading posts/reviews on a new dual boiler machine. Currently have a bean to cup, but would like a more manual machine, mainly drinking milky coffees or a small shot if doing some cardio fasted. Looking at the sage dual boiler, lelit elizabeth and ACS minima.....so undecided, but want to future proof myself for being able to control flow later as gain better experience.

Got funny looks when I first got my aeropress, bringing it to work etc. decided to try make better coffee about a year ago, started the research. My girlfriend complained(?!) she didn’t see me for a few weeks as I was stuck online researching this thing. Stumbled across this gang (in their/your former space), which made it so much easier to confidently choose an espresso machine and then help when it arrived not working correctly!! Thanks to all again and Dave your stated principles of this forum are so great in these times, must be applauded, cheers for such dedication. It would have been a much much more difficult journey to getting it half right without the help of you guys

Was on “the other coffee forum”, but thought I’d hop over and join you all here. I’ve liked coffee for a long time, with a progression through french press, moka pot, aeropress and Nespresso. I’ve now settled on v60 for filter and since Dec last year I’ve started making real espresso with a Rancilio Silvia coupled with a Niche Zero. I enjoy tinkering, so I fitted a PID almost straight away, and for Christmas I’ve got an Ito board coming so that I can play with pressure profiling (a bit like a decent on the cheap). While a single boiler might not be for everyone, I’m the only person in the house who drinks coffee, so it’s perfect for one. Easy to maintain and less energy use as I’m only heating one small boiler. It’s a bit slow when we have guests, but I can live with that.

Hello, all. I’m Rik…having had a bean-to-cup machine for a few years, i found myself getting a bit frustrated with its (lacking) functionality. So i started researching proper machines in the summer and finally made the plunge a month ago by getting a Lelit Elizabeth and 1zpresso J Max grinder. It’s a massive learning curve especially with freshly-roasted beans, but loving it so far. Now i just have to figure out how to persuade the missus to give up the bean to cup! Maybe the hand grinder wasn’t my best-ever idea hehe.

europa Welcome, yeah, the hand grinder was possibly going to be an issue in weaning your partner off the BTC machine. 🤣

I have had a few Classics and renovated loads but now have a Lelit Elizabeth, Solo grinder oh and recently got an Osmio Zero (all three from recommendations on the other site)

Also have a travel box consisting of 2005 Gaggia Baby and Aerspeed grinder

I live in the North West and also I am a beer snob and have “walked” when there has been no proper beer available including the clowns across the road!

I am a home roaster who loves coffee. I prefer a rather strong cup. My roasters are a fresh roast 540 with extension tube and a sandbox smart.

With the sandbox it’s all about experimentation…I did some videos on YT and I believe they recommend a smaller batch size now? I think an application updat and stuff came out a few months ago…I should update mine.

Yes , They recommend 100g. You did some roasting with 150g . I do love to experiment.

Hello all! I’ve followed you over. Never really introduced myself on the last forum so this presents a second opportunity!

I’ve been interested in getting a home espresso set up for a few years now, but for various reasons (mainly fear of the wife) I’ve not got round to pulling the trigger on anything.

At the moment I’m getting really nice coffee from my little hario mini and aeropress and trying as much espresso as I can in my travels.

I was only with the “old forum” a few weeks but learnt an enormous amount and hoping that will continue here. With a bit more time I might even be able to add myself to the “show us your setup thread”!

I’m also a refugee from that other place. After over 20 years of “BBC Blend” my coffee journey began with a Krups in the 80’s. That got put away when kids took up most of the spare time. When I resurrected it six years ago it promptly tripped the breaker. Replaced with a De Longi that satisfied for about a month… A Vibiemme single boiler came next along with a Pharos grinder. Irresistable offer in the classifieds for a Rocket Giotto Evo and a Eureka 65e. Both of which I still have along with the second Voodoo Daddy modded Pharos. Only upgrade in the last couple of years has been a Niche. The 65e is not doing much now… Would love an Evo but not just yet!
Coffeewise I’m on the dark side with Monsooned Malabar as the regular order. I keep on trying the lighter ones though since my son is head barista at a local cafe/bar. I’m yet to be converted…
Lovely to see so many familiar people here. I hope this forum grows and grows! Thank you DaveC for all the effort put in here and elsewhere.

Hi there,

I’m fairly new to the big game, having used a Krupps pressurized espresso machine and a basic burr grinder, followed by bean-to-cup machines (Gaggia and Delonghi) for some thirty years.

While forced to spend more time at home early in the year, I started by repairing my old machines, and fell into the rabbit hole of coffee forums all over the world… This was the start of a long ‘educational process’ and search for the gear which would fulfil all my aspirations… I quickly landed on the Niche grinder, but felt that any machine within my budget required some serious compromise… until I discovered the Evo Leva, at twice my initial budget… The rest is history. I still have a lot to learn, but it seems I’m in good company and that I have the toys required to do some exploring…. Returning temporarily to one of my BTC machines (as the evo isn’t suited for travelling), I have to admit that what was good enough a few months ago isn’t anymore 🤣

Well quite a few of you on here know me of old. I thought I knew where you all were but just found the address had changed so I’ve signed up again. Still loving the coffee but due to pressure of work since the pandemic I drink more coffee and talk about it less. But I’m still here and up for coffee related banter if you’ll have me 😂

Currently enjoying Kabira Ethiopia natural from Django, on my trusty R58 (cheers Dave) ground by an E37S with a very dim screen. Also have Aeropress and Aergrind for non espresso days.
