I have a wooden handled bottomless pf (generic) that I bought for my Elizabeth then a barista pro IMS basket in it. Will this IMS basket fit the supplied bottomless pf that comes with the Vesuvius?

So, my Vesuvius arrived today. I didn’t want to start another thread and this looked like the most appropriate place to discuss my first day! It left Italy last Friday and arrived in my house today - 6 days, yipee! Mine was definitely used, the plastic was gone from it, there was dirt here and there, spilled water underneath the water tank and for some reason the pipes going onto the tank had a black residue of some sort on parts of them. The panel on top of the machine, where the cup test sits is pretty badly finished with dirty plastic covering it but doesn’t bother me. I didn’t pay for a brand new machine I guess!! Assembling was easy as the provided guide is comprehensive (remember the first thing you do is unscrew the four screws on the top of the side panels, no hammer or anything required) The Teflon furniture gliders I pre purchased are perfect for moving it around on the counter top. A bag of felt pads come with the machine. I put 1L through the group 200ml at a time with at least 15 seconds in between. I then emptied the service boiler twice as per manual. I noticed the shower screen had coffee on it so I soaked that in puly caff and gave a good wash. At this stage I only had time to pull 4 shots as I had to leave! I was close to dialled in by the fourth albeit a bit long but I took it with me in the car- I have to say it was very very nice. So I look forward to playing with it tomorrow. I thought I had a dodgy touch screen as it didn’t seem to respond some times but apparently there are different delay times for different choices on it.. phew..! Looks a stunning machine on the counter and I love the almost totally silent pump. I thought the water reservoir wasn’t the best design but I think I’ll get used to it and won’t have to be refilling it so often when I’m not flushing the system through and just using it to make coffee! It really is a different operation to the Elizabeth but I don’t think it will take long to get used to it. So, I can’t wait to drink coffee from it tomorrow

For someone not so familiar with the technical terms like me, what does that mean, to “extend the cam-follower by one turn”? What did you have to do?

MediumRoastSteam The pin that lifts the valve seal is “following” the cam profile, so it’s called the follower. It is adjustable (threaded), so if it is threaded down one turn (“extended”) it will lift the valve more/earlier as its tip will now be closer to the cam, and if threaded up it will lift it less/later.

MediumRoastSteam It’s one of the two square pins (I assume the top one, but I don’t know if the picture is turned on its head!). The screw is the cam “depth” locking screw

what i want to know is how this just happens 3 weeks in, its a mechanical part, and those little suckers can be tight to turn.

i know top and bottom valve are different lengths from memory

Cuprajake IF (big if) it was ‘just at the lower edge of tolerance’ when just assembled, with a little bit of wear, a little bit of thermal expansion and a little bit of movement “up” facilitated by the cam push…

(I’m not excusing it; I’m just trying to understand it myself!)

It looks like I have my first Vesuvius repair to do coming up to 3&½ years old and time to finally take out the numerous spares I have. Water under the machine has been puzzling me with no obvious problem inside and finding it even when the drip tray is not too full. I spotted it yesterday though, water trickling down the case at the front from the nut of the steam wand against the faceplate.

Presumably my first venture into disassembling the whole piece to get to and replace a washer, anyone trodden this path before?

A general lever question please folks. I’m noticing the lever is getting worn/marked where it contacts the pump switch. Would it be any advantage to lubricate this part of the lever to prevent this wear or is it better to leave it because at least you know when the cam/spindle inside need lubricant when it gets stiff?

Edit:I realise you’ll still feel if the cam/spindle are stiff so forget that bit!! What about marking the lever at pump switch though? Is that just how it is?

Me again I’m afraid. The problem appeared to be solved for all of two weeks then started occurring intermittently again, and then 100% of the time.

I’ve been so busy with work and also away for a couple of weeks so just haven’t had the inclination to look into it.

just removed the mushroom to check that the cam-follower is actuating the valve, and it is:

caffeineus_impervious Stupid suggestion, that I’m sure you have already tried. Repeat the treatment of lowering the cam follower?

(I don’t like how the pin moves in the video; it appears that the pin seat is worn/damaged, but I’m not an expert in E61)

caffeineus_impervious I’d like to see this from the side, so I can see inside the cam chamber when the lever is actuated. Group fully assembled except for chamber side cover.

I asked for this long ago, not sure you provided it?
