I’ve wanted a Vesuvius for years, then the Evo came out. Neither is currently an option as I just don’t have the space but hopefully that will change. Besides one being a lever, how would those of you who have used both compare the two? I pretty much only drink espresso and I like the medium and lighter stuff. I’ve always had Pavonis and will always keep one so I don’t feel the need to have a lever just something that makes amazing espresso.

nopapercup I think if you can fit the Evo in the kitchen plus budget, and fancy an advanced dual boiler lever…go for it.

Patrick Hopefully it will happen at some point and even better if a second hand one pops up. Why do you suggest the Evo over the Vesuvius, does the lever just produce a better shot?

nopapercup it also has much better temperature control. But the Leva has a fixed profile… unlike the V…. Decisions decisions.

Wouldn’t the Vesuvius be able to replicate the Evo’s profile and others so a more versatile machine? I’ve not used a lever machine, but I feel like I’m missing something because I don’t see the attractiveness of it. Is it the LSM group producing a better cup or just the ‘romance’ of the lever everyone is raving about?

Totally different machines so you can’t really compare.

Different groups, basket sizes etc

Both will give good cups

The LSM group is a big chunk of hot metal so that will help stability.

nopapercup It’s difficult they are different, the Vesuvius can do lots of profiles an try to imitate a lever profile. The Evo is probably more temp stable, has a genuine 15m warmup and a certain “je ne se quoi”. It’s a massive advancement compared to std single boiler levers.

New question - Vesuvius pump not working

My Vesuvius, which I have had since 2014, has stopped working. When I switch it on the water heats normally and all seems to be working but raising the lever doesn’t start the pump. I tried pushing the pump switch with a screwdriver - same thing. I have opened the machine up and can’t see any obvious problems.

The pump is a 24 Volt pump and directly operated by the pump switch. There is a transformer that supplies power to the pump. Identify the transformer and check there are no loose wires. Cut and paste a photograph of the machine with the top lid off and we can identify the transformer for you.

This extra piece of information means there is no fault on:

the transformer
the wiring to the pump
the micro switch behind the lever

Is there anything else you can tell us? e.g. the age of the machine, not when you got it but it’s production year. It looks to be a very early machine to me? The more information you can give the better. It will also save you time and expense.

I’m not sure - the invoice says Vesuvius 1 and is dated 2014. I bought it from Bella Barista. Any way to check year?

dchinn is there a sticker/badge on the frame anywhere? It’s inside the door for the water tank on mine
