Coffeetimepals: I took off my upper ring on my Niche to inspect something but did not clean it. When I screwed it back in it really moved roughly. So I took it off and cleaned the threads and the threads in the machine. It is still pretty rough. Should I give it a tiny lube with some Moly 111?

@"DavecUK"#p16312 Definitely not cross threaded. It just runs rough and binds a little near the coffee range. I ordered some Moly 111. Should I clean the threads with alcohol to get rid of what ever gunk there might be there? I have brushed with a toothbrush and also used a toothpick, but it is still rough. The removable ring is totally clean. It looks like the issue is the threads in the housing. They do not look damaged.

OK, we'll see how it goes. The stuff won't be here until later this week, so I am stuck with some binding for now.

@"Doram"#p16322 I just did that. Seems to help. Not totally smooth, but pretty good.

Clean threads well and apply a smear of olive oil, it should do the job. I used to have this problem, not anymore.

Niche lubing threads

I have had a horrendous 3 weeks post cleaning my Niche Zero of terribly inconsistent grinds. I would adjust finer and my shots would run longer and vice versa and i couldn’t understand it. Similar symptoms to described, the spring loaded outer burr seemed to be catching as you pushed it down or tightened it. End result after pulling it apart about a dozen times, one of the springs was catching on the edge of the hole they sit in. Springs didn’t seem out of shape either. I gently machined a small 45* angle/chamfer to the spring hole with a 6mm drill bit (by hand) to allow spring to reseat itself without intervention. It is now back to its reliable self again thank goodness!

Wow, never seen that before..nice fix. Funny why it didn’t happen before and only showed itself after sleaning?

DavecUK If you have haemorrhoids, you can always use Vaseline, or a chap stick if you have badly chapped lips.

Can you still do this if you don’t have haemorrhoids Dave or do you have to be ‘in the club’ so to speak?
