Pompeyexile Last bit of baking for a while as we have the builders in repairing moving twisted joist in the ground floor of our house. What is left of Hoffman’s Coffee Cake Jamie Oliver’s Chicken Puff Pie. Home-made puff pastry too!
Pompeyexile The floor in the lounge hall and some of the kitchen are all coming up. Too right about the conservatory. Had a solid roof put on it last year so it is a proper room now and yes without that and the back bedroom we would have had to hire storage and a van. It was a case of house furniture tetras 😀
DavecUK Pompeyexile Too right about the conservatory. Had a solid roof put on it last year so it is a proper room now It was a great change in the law, a proper roof allows it to be used all year round…not just 4 months a year. Increases house value as well.
Pompeyexile 9 × 2. and not a hint of any rot. Just had some good news. We initially thought some would have to be replaced but it seems not. Where they are fixed to the original fireplace hearth they were coming away which is what caused te floor to sag. Plus the original builders didn’t put any supporting wall down the middle. This has now been sorted and the floor is now nice and solid. Just having insulation put inbetween the joists now. Next up the hallway and kitchen.
Pompeyexile Have not got a scooby. Don’t know what was used back in 1982. It is all dry and solid with no chew marks or holes in it.
Pompeyexile Yep, proper roof really well insulated which means it is classed as another room proper so as you say ups the value of the house. But the main benefit is not freezing in the winter or like a crematorium oven in the summer. We even had to have a proper on the wall air conditioner fitted and still it was not really comfortable, plus it cost a fortune to run. Now the room is so good we had the air conditioner taken out and it is cosey in the winter and more than bearable in the summer. Conservatories seem a good idea at the time, but living with one is a completely differetn kettle of fish.
