Hey Guys, I just got a brandnew Puristika and am wondering why the pressure with the blindbasket takes 15-18 seconds until it reaches the set pressure of 8 bars. I can adjust the pressure to 12 bars but than it takes even longer to get there. Do you have any idea what component to check? Thanks a lot and have a great weekend. Paul

Does it still take 15 - 18 secs on the second purge ? Could just be the basket filling up, I always fill my blind basket with hot water from the kettle on first purge.

Waitforme Ya its the same for every pull. The third takes just as long as the first. Oh and its the same with coffee in the regular basket - with 4-7red klicks with a C40 Comandante.

Schnullidulli while I am thinking can you place a container under the group and lift lever for 10 seconds and weigh output. Also when the blind filter was loaded and it was slowly coming up to pressure was a tube in the water tank returning water most of the time. And does it still happen if the tank lid is loose, with an air gap?

DavecUK I am at work now and dont have access to my machine, but I will do that the Moment I am home. What i can give you is share you another Video I did yesterday to illustrate the waterflow. While pressure is building no water flows or even drops into the watertank until the expansion valve kicks in. Thank you so much for taking the time to troubleshoot my machine 🙏

Schnullidulli - not related to the issue you have, but notice all the squeaking when pulling the lever down. You must, when backflushing with chemicals like Cafiza or Puly, always follow up with lubricating the lever cam.

MediumRoastSteam Ya i noticed that too, but actually never backflusged with any cemicalwls whatsoever until now. Only filtered water. I ordered kamelianoil and flushed back with this yesterday but nothing changed yet. Should and can I just unscrew the lever and smire some oil there or do I have to take the machine appart to properly lubricate it?

Hey dave. Sorry for the long absence. The shop where I bought the machine exchanged mine for a new one which tool a while. But sadly the Problem remains. It still takes about 15s until the pressure hits 8 bar with the blind basket. If set, it continues until 12 bar but takes of course even longer and climbs slowly but steady.

Every Video i could find from others pulling a shot with their puristika takes about 8s to reach 8-9 bars… now I am a little afraid of telling my poor local dealer that the new machine has the same Problem… :(

I really don’t know, it seems odd to get 2 machines with the same problem.

I can only suggest you do the checks I said… I am baffled, but working blind..

Well I opened the case and the first thing that mocks me is hooow many air bubbles are in this tubes and why are there such crazy cheap looking plastic connections between the tubes?

For the Pump the only thing I can read without going further is, that it seems to be an ULKA. A red one as my wife whisly added😅

Schnullidulli Standard Ulka EX5 no membrane regulator, so nothing to slow the flow. Try leaving the water tank lid loose and if there is a large filter cartridge, remove it. See if that improves things.

I ran another few blind basket tests with the lid of the water Tank open, without the Filter I photographed on the tube which is inside the watertank but still takes 13s to reach 9bars and it seems to me air bubbles rushing through the intake tube while pulling the blind shot…

Well a cardridge filter I dont use, I only put already filtered water in the tank.

Unlisted is when only those with the link can watch it.

I would say it’s probably alright, and they may well have used a 0.5mm group jet, which would slow the rise down. Certainly, I wouldn’t be unhappy with that rate of rise for espresso. The long initial delay will be filling the void in the blind filter.

Schnullidulli - to clarify things:

does that rate of rise also happen when you are actually brewing rather than when using the blind filter basket?
could it be that, as Dave is saying, ECM have changed the size of the the jet to 0.5mm, and therefore newer machines are now “slower” to ramp up?

There are a few members with the Puristika here, and would be interesting if they could chime in and share their experience.

It is even worse with coffee in the basket, because it takes more time to saturate the puk until the pressure builds up.

Does anyone has an idea how I can get rid of the air bubbles from the intake? The bubbles appear before they get into this plastic Adapter which you can see in the video…
