I am with Dave. It depends on the coffee. Light roasts like stem pre-infusion, a long one (10, 15 seconds) where dark roasts not so much.
As I’m am a lazy and tight, my morning coffee has steam pre-infusion, whereas my afternoon coffee has bloom pre-infusion. That’s because in the morning I have a milk based drink, whereas in the afternoon I don’t, as there’s no need to steam, the machine is in ECO mode saving energy. 😊
