Was there a Youtube coffee video that inspired you, or you feel benefited your coffee making in some way? Lately, I haven't found his (or anyone else's for that matter) content that informative but I will always be indebted to James Hoffmann for the 'no plunge' French press video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st571DYYTR8 I used to enjoy Steve Leighton's very engaging HasBean, In My Mug videos too. The Nordic Barista channel videos were long and a bit heavy going, but could be very interesting.

I find most of it very annoying, maybe it's the plucky American spirit. Most just paid advertising, gotta create that content. Quite a few of the James Hoffmann ones - mainly "older stuff" and on brewing methods I don't really use other than out of curiosity (e.g. French press). I agree with you that recent material has gone more on the 'entertainment' side, which is good, but it's coffee-related entertainment rather than coffee-making content. Also, Lance Heidrick on steaming.

I have always enjoyed watching JH videos - the presentation, the comical elements and so on. I seldom buy anything based on youtube recommendations. I had given up on coffee for a few years before accidentally stumbling onto his youtube videos. His videos inspired me to start drinking coffee. I will always remain thankful to him for dragging me into coffee again. Then, the other forum and Dave happened; it is now a serious hobby. My filters are mostly V60 and Clever. Not getting a decent sample size helps to propagate the myth of the 0.1g consistency grinder.

IMHO, it’s a quick over view, he doesn’t go over the details (as one can look at the website), isn’t seen hard selling the L, which is good, and says it makes a lovely shot off light roasts. Perhaps, he wanted to address the criticism in this space. I would have liked seeing the bag of beans, watch him dialling in a few shots, show those shots (from PI to end of shots, bar pressures,…), explain in detail what worked/didn’t work in those shots, and perhaps, pull a few shots of a few bags. The comments like it is forgiving, pressure profiling, … are pretty common for all the spring levers in general; of course, one may disagree. In short, IMHO, there is nothing exciting about that video. I like watching his videos as some of his’ are quite funny to watch. I have never owned the L. I have an Evo. Re-your comments on L criticism here, this is a very open and a friendly forum respecting not only the members as persons but also their views. Those comments are purely the users’ experience and their views on a product. You are one of the very happy users. You may challenge those experiences and the users’ views, can’t you? 😊

i have a friend with a flat, has the sheriken burrs and he can some times struggle with his lr, something about burr touching point, when i had my l1, i upgraded the pressure stat, and reduced pressure to 1.2bar, made a good difference and the click was gone too iirc a well worth upgrade if not already don @"mathof2"#p23847

But having posted two relatively simple "Grinder Comparison" type posts ("review" would be an over statement) I was surprised how much work it is! And it gets complicated too. To be fair to your point, Hoffman has a small team of people helping so a bit of the heavy lifting is taken off him but still, the review as it was must have been a massive effort.

I see this forum as the last bastion of coffee and truth, it’s why I asked for my Home Barista Account to be closed. If people have any sense at all, they will come and ask questions on here as well, where they will get a range of replies that are not commercially biased with no companies to protect.

DavecUK Funnily enough, I have also had enough of HB. The place is a sham where if it makes money for its owners, then they will allow anything to happen. A new product launched very recently, the main protagonist now has ‘supporter’ status meaning he has made a contribution large enough to their coffers to be protected. God forbid anyone who now criticises them and their shilled product.

It is such a refreshing change to log on to here where there are no commercial pressures. I do not think any other forums are run this way meaning it’s members who are on forums elsewhere are used to being bombarded with money making schemes.

There are some relationships on here that may not be clear to all members. We know there’s friendships and close involvement with ACS and Niche products. Some people were involved extensively with the testing of the Duo for example.

Obviously regulars notice the people openly talking about their involvement in such products and probably assume those people would be honest if they thought a product they were involved with wasn’t good.

I know none of this is commercially motivated and unpaid, but being completely diplomatic you can see why the suggestion of slight bias has been made on other forums.

Hopefully not the only one who’s thought this on occasion.

I am sure others would set anyone right on this and no one stifles any negative comment about those products, or heavily shills them. I would only address content that is defamatory, factually incorrect or suggestions of illegality where none exists.

Personally I am super careful to make sure any relationships I have do not affect the advice I give and that I don’t profit from such relationships….even though could do with the money now. To do otherwise would mean this was no longer a hobby and my enjoyment would evaporate.

As for what they say on other forums, perhaps they should look at what they are allowing/doing.

I suppose I see the involvement as a big benefit. The fact a respected figure was involved in the Bianca (and written the guide) was one of the reasons I bought one and although it’s not for me, it’s nice to be able to communicate with people who’d tested the Niche for a long while before it was out.

I guess my only comment on this forum is that hopefully it grows the community from outside the UK and we get more LM owners. That’s one of the few reasons I still post on HB as it’s got a far greater number of Mazzer / LM owners whereas here it’s thin on the ground.

Possibly due to other machines being less competitively priced in the US meaning the LM isn’t as much more expensive.

I welcome posts on here about LM machines though because it’s nice to learn from what they do well or badly. This can all be fed into improving other manufacturers machines. post like my LM is brilliant are not really useful without the why and how.

I got banned off one forum for testing a duo and on hb became open game for bs being spread about me, by a manufacturer and later about the duo again.
