A Volkswagen Golf and A Ferrari GT are driving down the Long Island Expressway at 3pm Friday. Which is going faster? Neither, both are moving at about 2 MPH.

What’s the difference between an audiophile and the Ferrari driver?

The driver knows she is going at the same speed as everyone else on the LIE

    Happens with coffee too ;-)

"Hifi is much easier to justify price of some components. Are 4 × 5m £3k speaker cables worth more to wire my speakers than the £80 ones i currently have. 100 percent definitely not!

--that’s only because you are not using audiophile cable hangers ;-)

Congratulations ! Hope you have real fun with this. I’m very looking forward to hearing your thoughts vs Niche Zero when you get that far.

Realistically – how could it possibly be just like a Philos but just half the price? If it sounds too good to be true….

I barely use Net social media however Discord surprised me by how easy it was to find the WUG2 group.

In the Discord app, left-most column, click on the last icon from the top. Supposed to be a compass, and close enough. Go to Espresso Aficionados, click on compass again and search for Titan Grinders, at Titan Grinders click on compass yet again search for WUG2. Sounds more than it is.

I did not stop to look as I have no pressing questions. Hopefully any of yours will get answered and you may even find an owner proximate to you. Good luck; have fun.

PS One concern I had was does it grind properly? So many chic a la mode grinders do not – they stall, they require hot-feeding, they work best with single-bean feeding, and other such flummery. I would not purchase an auto that required me to get out and push when I reached a hill.

The WUG2, just like the Niche, will happily grind green beans without stalling. So again, not necessarily better but also definitely no worse.

I am a natural skeptic and find coffee almost as superstition-ridden as audio, so I approach slowly. The NZ and ND are already excellent so what would my wife and I expect from a WUG2?

Well, the build quality is better; whether that makes any difference in the cup or in practical longevity I can’t say. However I can say it will not be worse and is likely better.

We love our Niche Mazzer burrs for espresso and our Kinu M47 also. Will Mazzer Robur 83mm burrs be better for us? We cannot be certain of course but are guessing yes. They definitely will not be worse.

For high-clarity filter we have a Pietro that meets our requirements. so we would not opt for an Ultra burr or similar.

For most filter and sometimes espresso we really enjoy SSP LS Cast v2 in 83mm on Duo and 64mm on Fellow Ode. Will the 80mm SSP LS Cv2 be better for us? Again we have to guess based on the data we have, however we can be certain it will not be worse.

So we are willing to gamble that indeed the results will be better for us, and of course we will be able to use both burr sets in a single grinder. There is minimal risk since we know it will not be worse. The worst case is no difference in the cup and some funds wasted. The difference between purchasing the WUG2 and 220v versions of both our Niche grinders is small enough for us to take the chance.

This is how we arrived at our decision because while conversing with WUG2 owners could definitely answer some questions (build quality, support, etc) no such conversation can tell us that we will definitely taste better cups.

I don’t know if this is helpful, but I hope so. Dave could likely offer an informed opinion on 83mm Robur burrs vs Kony 63mm burrs. If you are not in a hurry I’ll have time in a few weeks to chase down the WUG2 Discord and will send you the link.

            • dfk41

The WUG2 lets you use ither Robur burr set, 83mm or 71mm, with essentially zero retention ;-)

              • dfk41

I’ll add that were it not for moving we would not replace our Niche Zero and Niche Duo. However, as 220V versions will run us $1,570 the move to a WUG2 with the burrs of our choice is not much of a leap, but is the farthest we would go. If we stayed here, both Niches would remain too. They are just really difficult to equal, much less excel.

I can only see USA pricing. However, you do get a 25% discount on up to four burr sets when ordered with the machine, so the Mazzer 83 conical set is $359 * .75 =$269.25 The grinder is$ 1,799, So just over $2,000 in USA.

I did interact with a few owners over the last year; all very positively. There is a Discord channel somewhere under Titan Grinders, which I’ve not had an opportunity to join just yet, but plan to before month’s end. When I find the link I’ll pass it on.

What got our attention was the ease of changing burrs, second only to Duo in this regard. The ability to use a range of conical and flat burrs, which implies this is really an “end-game” product. If you look at some of the videos, you can see how it is as close to zero retention as possible. Owners were enthusiastic about build quality, hyper-alignment – including of the burr / carrier sets which are done individually. And for my wife and I space-saving.

We are likely to be moving to the EU in the next couple of years and will not purchase until that timeline is fixed, but then, yes. We believe this will probably be a real step up from our Niche Zero and Niche Duo, in a more compact package, and at a price that is significantly less than comparable alternatives.

Our one concern is support if the owner retires, however that is the case with Kafatek also.

                Good luck with your quest.

              • One well-engineered alternate is the WUG2 v2 which accepts both 83mm and 71mm Mazzer conical burrs. I do not know how much difference there would be in the cup from the NZ burr set. Perhaps Dave will comment on this. Otherwise, I believe Kafatek is the only other high quality conical alternative.

It says much for Niche that the upgrade options are multiples of its’ price ;-)

                • Sorry, I don’'t have a full answer, however Safari is much more privacy focused than Chrome, and as you have a Mac you could use it. I’m on FB solely to send birthday greetings, so several times monthly, and have not had any such invasiveness. However, I do get warning messages from FB that “this browser is not supported” (latest Safari btw) although it is doing everything I need it to but clearly not everything they want it to ;-) If you do not receive a full answer here try Reddit which will certainly provide one.

PS We here are either all old duffers or old-duffers-in-training I think ;-)

My dear fellow; if it is impossible to avoid media contact, then you are already infected. Shall we stop this nonsense and allow that each of us may be widely read and thoughtful?

                  • chlorox

You don’t know me; we’ve never met, spoken, corresponded. Your statements about my beliefs are presumptuous at best. I live here when not in the EU; you do not. I’ve seen and known about him for decades before you ever heard his name.

I could just reverse your statements about me into saying you’ve been brain-washed by the right-wing however, shall we be gentlemanly and refrain from any such further idiocy?

I firmly believe that a healthy society has meaningful conversations between right and left, old and young; that consensus not debate is the goal; that the good of the community not of one side is primary, and that pragmatic solutions derive from the combined experience, knowledge, wisdom gained by listening well to each other.

I have no party affiliations; I have minimal media contact. My “news” comes mainly from science journals, and a close reading of history, particularly economic. Actual data is more interesting to me than opinions.

The Post Modern extreme far right and the Post Modernist Neo-Marxist revisionists (woke for short) are both the enemies of Western civilization and all that it implies. They only differ in whom they hate and fear. Otherwise they are interchangeable.

There are many pressing problems globally. Immigration is one, and is the one where I believe a radical pragmatic right-wing solution must occur ASAP.

You believe Trump to be a good leader; I believe he is a swine. You believe he will solve this and other problems. I do not.

                    History will tell.

                    • chlorox

And you as well – watch the reality not the rhetoric and perhaps we shall amicably compare notes down the road.

                      • chlorox

A correction or two – largest tax cut was by JFK; NASA was a tiny nothing, JFK made it a major priority. We could argue the others buy why? Medicare is everything you say however it is better than nothing – although not by much.

                        • chlorox

So how many are appropriate? you have no problem with four, although that meant many people were stuck with it and likely many got hurt, what is your acceptable ceiling on bankruptcies – especially triple-million figure bankruptcies?
