Tried my light roast today, dialed in on the first try😁

First shot i did 86/90 second 90/98

First shot was bright, not to acidic with strawberry. Second shot mellowed the acidity but kept the strawberry. 16.5g in stock basket

Im really impressed with the leva, for me its been the final step in espresso.

Its allowed me to push into lighter roasts, without being too bright/acidic.

Im still exploring temperature. My main issue is, i make my drink with the mrs, so need to settle on a temp that works as an average for both beans

Cuprajake You don’t need to, actually. 2C difference is probably the max between two cups. I haven’t timed it. You should be there to pull your shot, if you make hers’ first. 😊

How long does it take to stabilize on a different temperature? I like to switch from medium-dark roast for cappu directly over to very light roast for espresso, or the other way round.. how long would one have to wait in between? Does it take longer to cool down (grouphead?) or does it take longer to heat up?

I just timed it. I made a cold coffee with a medium-dark roast for my daughter - 92/100. My cold coffee is a medium light with temp settings at 94/100. The group took 26.67s from 92 to 94.

The group heats and cools quickly, 5 mins, less to hear up

The boiler takes longer to cool down, it was a good 10mins to go down. Again heats up in minutes.

That’s why I always make my coffee later! However, I have never seen it taking that much time to heat up. Whether it is group or the brew, the cooling is about a minute to minute and a half per 1C on my machine.

I’d personally wait 1.5 to 2 min after making a change just to be sure the tempo change has sinked all the away through the group.

Looking forward to trying different temp combinations. Coming from a Strega, I did like the instant temperature change I could get by altering the pre-flush duration or time between flush and pull, but I never knew what was happening, a total shot in the dark. Was the boiler just at lowest pressure, before switching pressurestat on, or just after reaching switch-off pressure? How warm was the water reservoir temperature? In summer or after a long time turned on, up to 20C? warmer than just started? What was the grouphead doing? Just cycled high or at lowest point?

So I’m really looking forward to more consistency. Not sure I even need to switch temps that often though.. what is a good all-round temp combo to start with? 98-90?

Hugonl37 try 96 brew, 90 group, then take it up from there. keeping 5-6C between group and brew.

Im tempted to still have the normcore tamper turned to the ims basket, as that second basket from blue cafe is scrap😂

So my food grade silicone spray came today,

Took the lever to bits, dried it and then used the spray.

I then cleaned the group checked for marks, nothing.

Then regreased the sleeve and the seal refit the group and tightened up the little nuts

Happy to say the spring has now gone silent.

I did the mod of direct plumbing… nice results everything works as expected, before the machine there is a pressure regulator set to 2 bar. I will share further details soon with some figures 👌🏽

Is it possible to get the EVO Leva complete plumbed without pump, or is this a mod to the existing machine with gear pump ?

One thing i found useful when taking the group out is a band around the group to hold the back leve

@LMSC can you 100% confirm stock baskets take a 54.4mm tamper as im sending a base tk be modified thanks

Cuprajake Jake, I will dose an 18g and a 16.5g on the stock, distribute and tamp with my 54.4 mm convex Torr tamper and share a few photos tomorrow. You may then decide for yourself.

A 54.4mm tamper works fine with the stock baskets (and is OK with the IMS ones as well)
