BBritton LMSC Yes I think I need to tighten grind some more. I also like your suggestion to shorten pour, I’m sure that will sweeten it up also. I’ll try both later. Thanks.
BBritton I have been shocked at how the Evo Leva extracts from the beans. My previous machine was a Saeco automatic bean to cup. Very different. James Hoffman recently had video about bean to cup machines and explained that they only extract about 50% from the beans max due to their limitations on grind and other issues. I used to like very dark roast 100% Robusta from my employees home town Toraja Sulawesi Indonesia. They roasted it traditionally for me and it was very nice in the Seaco. I haven’t dared put it in the Evo Leva yet. I can see why most people seem to prefer medium roast on these machines, they definitely extract all the goodness very well. Thanks for the input.
Gav86 Cuprajake what was the roast date on your smith st batches? I’ve resisted opening so far as mine show the 4th
Cuprajake Yes, was nice and I don’t even think I was dialed in 100% So far there’s not much between the niche and mazzer. It’s splitting hairs atm. My test testing continues 😁
Cuprajake All 4th April. I don’t really bother resting that much as by the time stuff has been posted out it’s usually a week or so
dfk41 The Smith Street stuff I have had usually comes into its own between 21 and 28 days post roast. I then vacuum seal and drink it over the coming months
Gav86 dfk41 good to know, looks like Jake and I haven’t needed to wait those days. They must have had the 15% off to shift some bags!
LMSC dfk41 That’s 3-4 weeks of rest! Are they medium ? I thought medium light and light would benefit from those types of resting. 😊
Cuprajake Where do most people pull a 2:1 shot, I regularly see just under 8bar when I pull 16g shots
DavecUK Cuprajake For me it was ending around 6.5 bar, but my springs were knackered and I was pulling 18g coffee into 36g espresso.
Eiffel Just under 8 bar, with pressure falling fast afterwards seems to match my experience with 2:1 16g shots. Waiting for the pressure to drop to 7 bars yields 2.5 :1 shots or therebouts on my machine
LMSC Just under 8 for an 18g dose. The 7.5 consistently yields 39g-40g. This is where I pull out my cup for medium, at 7 bar for light / medium light — 45g and at 8 for medium dark. The pressure will always drop to zero at 6 bar.
Berryterry Hey, I am struggling to get the drip tray plug (the plastic thing) as i want to hook the tray to a drain… any ideas how to pull it out? I was surprised of the amount force I applied and still it didn’t come out. Is there a technical way to it?
DaveCAU Push the lock ring in to release it. So you pull the plug one way, and push the lock ring in the opposite direction.
DaveCAU The type of fitting is often called a John Guest push-on fitting. Instructions for those will explain them for you.
Berryterry DaveCAU thanks… I learned about these new fittings and it worked like charm… knowledge is power…
