The silicone gasket, maybe because it’s softer, it is indeed slightly more difficult to remove, but for me at least, as far as I remember, it came out with the shower screen all the time. On the Elizabeth, it’s very hard to remove the silicone one, almost as if it moulds to the slot where it goes in.

It’s impressive to see a gasket in such good condition after a couple of years, i must admit.

The shower screen and gasket is one of the things I love about E-61. It is one of those things that are usually overlooked (you won’t find people mentioning it when discussing Elisabeth vs. Mara for example), but it is something that you interface with on a regular basis. For me it changes the experience of using the machine: an E-61 is so easy to use/clean/maintain. I suppose this has contributed to the fact it is still so common after such a long time. (apologies for going off-course of this thread).

I been trying new roasters and SEY have great shipping and nice coffees and I recommend the guiju Ethiopian. In line just degassing is square mile Kenya blend which I am very keen to try. Been doing more iced drinks and playing out with different ingredients for more summery drinks!

It’s thinner than the stocke screen so with the GU10 clip I didn’t like the fit

Cuprajake oki make sense. How did you change the knobs and lever handle when you put in the steel wood trim?

They just twist off.

Worst case use some small pliers wrapped with tape to grip the shaft of the small ones

Berryterry I have a pal visiting soon from Oz, and he is bringing me some wood. I have unscrewed the steam/water toggles and pf handles, but the lever handle which is not wood, seems a bit more stuck! Can I ask if anyone has unscrewed the imitation wood handle or is a different approach needed?

The lever handles, steam and tap handles are easier to remove. Like Berryterry, I have tried to remove the porta filter handles since getting the machine. I can’t without risking a damage to my hands or the handles or both! I think the handles have too much rust or some body at the factory has used all their strength to tighten them.

Do we turn them anti-clock wise?

The lever handle is some sort of plastic/resin and has a larger thread than the portafilters (M12 rather than M10 IIRC). On my machine it unscrews very (too) easily. It that*s not the case, a spanner at the other end of the lever should provide enough grip to unscrew the lever handle.

Eiffel If in unscrews too easily, you could always use a small dab of thread lock…not too much.

LMSC You turn the handle anticlockwise. many years ago I asked ACS to not use thread locker on Portafilter handles.

DavecUK Thanks Dave. I did manage to remove one of the spouted filters a couple of weeks ago. It is rusty.

The other spouted inc bottomless are too tight. I will try with some pliers. They might damage the filter shaft.

How do we treat them for rust ?

DavecUK Allowing a few drops of veg oil to work its’ way through did the trick, but it came off the other way around, though! Not sure, how to undo the screw without damaging the thread.

Not necessarily - just rust-proofing fluid that creates a black iron phosphate coating. Hammerite - as well as costing an arm and a leg (though it’s good) - also has pigments in it and it adds more thickness.

One tip for the knobs: put them in the engage position to unscrew/ screw them it will make it easier to get them fully tightened. I managed to remove 90 of the gunk by wd40 and wire brush.

Evo Leva landed 9 hours ago. A few surprises/changes - mostly positive - from what I expected:

The olivewood handles are really nice. The lever handle is in real wood, unlike (some of?) the standard “walnut” ones.
There is an IEC-C14 (“kettle plug”) socket for the cable; I thought it was hard-wired in. @-Mac - this ‘solves’ your moving to Spain problem!
There is an inspection panel on the machine bottom, providing easy access to the boilers bottoms and relative plugs, for those that want to install drainage valves. I’ll post a more detailed description of the process with a few photos, but there is no need to remove the boilers, and only 6 screws need removing.
The ‘new’ foot rails are great for moving the machine around, as they provide a structurally solid, smooth place to grab for carrying/moving. Still better to have a helper… it is heavy.
The quality of the assembly is very high - but I had to widen a couple of screw holes in the top panel by 2 mm or so, as they would not get back together neatly (and they were a b***er to unscrew!)
The accessories box is now cardboard, rather than plywood, but the tamper is much nicer than the ‘old’ all-aluminium one, with matching wood. Tamper diameter is 53.59 mm, so a good fit for the stock baskets at 54.62, I think.

The lever spring is almost strong enough to lift my wife off her feet…

CoyoteOldMan I’ll post a more detailed description of the process with a few photos, but there is no need to remove the boilers, and only 6 screws need removing.

Although a step-by-step guide has already been posted and documented, it will be interesting to get your version considering you’re suggesting keeping the boiler intact. I wonder how you prevented water from oozing out when one of the valves are removed to fit the drain valve. Perhaps, you flushed as much as possible before the job.
