Loosened both SM230/231 leaving a mm gap between the side of the group shafts and the bolts. I neither heard any noticeable difference in the sound when the lever is pulled down nor the effort requiresd to pull the lever. Hopefully, it prevents any additional damages to the shafts, until we get a proper resolution / fix to the issue from Paolo.

Cuprajake Quite similar with my Vesuvius. 250g of milk, about 270g total. It’s important to heat the circuit first but you don’t need to purge at full power. Just take the first condensed water gently in a jar and afterwards keep it running barely opened for 6 or 7 seconds. Clean and effective.

😀. Don’t think I would sell it. It’s a nice simple machine that *should* last a lifetime and be repairable. I think before I chase new equipment I should be more consistent with what I have. Still it does look interesting…..😜

No, the material that I have to make the rings has insufficient diameter to fit outside of the basket.

Norvin I believe the outer diameter is 56 mm. The challenge will be to making it slug fit, given the shape of the outer edges.

I have the IMS B662Th26M basket, that has an OD of 66mm. The rings have an OD of about 63mm, so unfortunately are too small.

So who’s finding after having their EVO for a while the process of making espresso boring? My EVO is so consistent with pulling a good shot that I kinda miss the uncertainty sometimes of my old e61 machine. It’s a weird to thing to miss I know but it’s odd not having to worry about if the shot coming out is going to be good or poo water. Could also be my new grinder but I think it’s just the machine.

I used to dream and still do about just using one machine and really just not having to think about it. At some point when I have finished my grinder testing, the Vibiemme will get returned and I can get back to a less finnicky machine. For now having a machine where it’s hard to get a good looking shot, is a great test for the grinder.

Nice problem to have.

I found my lever very consistent, almost boring, hence moving to flow control. I did fancy a Vesuvius for a while.

Re the steam question. The condensation in the arm hows that work? Because the valve closes at the top of the arm so in reality there should be no steam in the wand to turn to water and if there was residule shouldn’t that drip out..

I think it mainly has to do with the mantis arm because it’s really long plus how long is the internal connection from the steam boiler to the steam valve?

Ours has a Vesuvius arm. The condensation does release a fair bit of water requiring a purge for 3-4s. I end up purging for a few seconds more, to get any residue out.

Irrespective of where the valve is, condensation is bound to
form at the entire length of the pipe from boiler. They all
need to get flushed out, is it not?

@LMSC As to a dosing ring this was the closest I could find - a funnel rather than an external ring. It may not be any good for you if you want to tamp through. Still It’s a very good fit to the basket internal diameter and not expensive as an interim solution. It could be further cut down so that it does not cause any real edge channel pre tamping (currently leaves 1-2mm which has to be distributed). You may need to find a custom supplier, for example someone on Etsy.

Camby Thank you. Appreciate your help. We already have a nice custom-made dosing ring made by @Norvin. I was asking him if he plans to make some, which will snug fit externally. 😊
