When my daughter was 20 months old, she figured out how to escape from her crib. I was not ready for her to have the freedom to get out whenever she pleased and put her in a sleepsac to make it so she couldn’t escape anymore. That lasted about 15 minutes, and only managed to make it more dangerous to escape. Moved her to a real bed after that

When she was 2-3, she pushed a chair from the dining room to the kitchen, and used that so she could climb onto the counter to reach the snacks.

She’s now 7, and has a little sister nearly 5 and every bit as clever. I’m continuously amazed at how smart kids are. They are nearly as smart as adults, but only lack the life experiences of which they can draw upon. It’s the life experiences that worries me. I think about the negative consequences of bad judgement, and they only think about the rewards.

Or maybe it’s better to think about the tangential benefits. Maybe it would allow the kids to safely make my wife a latte in the morning?

Truth be told, I’m more nervous about the steam wand.

If your little ones are really that precocious why not point out to them that is is HOT and dangerous.
They will work it out eventually I’m sure.

Sorry Loonster, it is late and I don’t mean to sound so mean.
Surely there are dozens of dangers around a normal kitchen/household that a child could injure themselves with.
The wood fired stove in my lounge room( and the coal fired one I grew up with) would surely be a greater danger.

Elcarajillo @DavecUK Haven’t found time to troubleshoot the sound from the cam.

Three observations :

The sound kicks in while pulling the lever down at a particular angle.
Like wise, when the lever is released, if I am not pulling a shot.
There is no sound, if a shot is in making, after the lever is released. The sound does come when the lever is locked.

No, I don’t have parts and no you can’t source them locally. I would recommend identifying the cause of the problem before sourcing parts though.

Perhaps, it is another Naples specific! Euro parts stock them, assuming they are correct.

Thx for the parts diagram Dave. I think we require at least one more parts diagram for the cam / swing elements.

The entire piston and the top elements need to be taken apart to isolate the problem. I think the pin is the issue - see the diagram below.

One silly question is, is it safer to remove part AM 321 (two bolts holding the cam and its’ element together) to take a closer look? My concern is the cam + parts breaking under pressure (after removing 321) and hitting the ceiling! 😁

I think a safe practice is mounting on bench vice.

There is a roller bearing inside the top cam slot part (SM.121)…this roller bearing is part number SM.99 I spoke to Paolo and he thinks it might be this making the funny sound and I agree. it’s possibly got a broken roller…for some reason. Usually only happens when the groups get really old….or sometimes if the lever is released and flicks back to it’s stop, the shock might damage a roller pin?

I will be at Host Milan ln October and can pick up the part for you if that can arrange to have it ready from the group manufacturer. When I return I can post it to you.

It’s not a part usually stocked as it’s very rare to have a problem and you can continue to use the machine as it cannot damage anything else….and won’t cause a problem apart from the noise. You could always put a little lube inside the hole in SM.121…in fact I would.

I can confirm that the lever was never released even accidentally. I always hold with 2 hands to lock and release.

I’ve searched and searched can’t find it, on the parts diagrams. But if it what I “think” you mean…NO the spring is under tension.

Why? Wait for instructions on how to replace, but it’s done by removing the top lever assmbly from the lower one (the 4 domed nuts), then unscrewing the piston, then unscrewing the spring retaining nut below to release the spring tension. Only then is it safe to work on removing the cam it bits at the very top of the group to replace the roller bearing.

A part like will fail by being lubed. The lube is for diagnostic purposes only. If the friction gets too low, it will slide instead of roll. The sliding overtime will create a flat on the bearing and make it non functional.

Don’t disassemble it until you get the spare

Yes, it’s not a part that should need lubrication….although as it’s most likely gone bad…lubricating will help in the interim to prevent any concomitant wear.

Unfortunately, I will be shooting in the dark, hoping that pin (SM 99) is the problem.

I am also thinking, if broken ball bearings on SM 124 (also ball bearings) might also cause that sound. That’s my luck! lol. 😂

That’s why, I said some other possible parts, just in case.

I won’t remove the bolts for sure, unless the double springs pressure is relieved thru’ the pressure holding nut, which I think will be very difficult to remove. That’s why I said bench vice. Jake recommended a large breaker bar and deep socket to remove this nut after it is tapped safely on the vice. Not sure, I am prepared to do this, though. 😁

Yes, if it’s those, spring pressure must be relieved 1st.
