Adrianmsmith I have my leva plumbed in on water mains without pump. Preinfusion through mains and pressure reducer. I love the silent operation. Instead of the pump noise only a click of an electro valve. The mod is not fully documented here and takes a bit of surgery inside the machine. I bought mine from @NelisB, who did the mod. It is described in post 1037 and further in this thread.

@Cuprajake - didn’t you try plumbing in your machine at some point - but it was never a silent operation? There was always some grunting somewhere?

the internal mods needed to go mains no pump are not super easy and the group still makes a noise so its not a silent modification to say the least, plus it messed with temps and the taste.

Agree, the mod is not super easy. But for the result, my experience is different. My Evo is silent but for a click of the electro valve and no complaints about taste or temp. (water from the mains goes through a filter and therefore arrives at room temp in the boiler.)

im happy doing and electrical and mechanical work but cant work out what i would need to do. I will do it at my own risk and will sanity check any suggestions prior to proceeding (if that makes it easier for me to get some info :0 :) )

ive already had all the panels off and studies the water path but cant get my head around presumably disconnecting and bypassing the pump. I have a regulated feed available through my everpure claris filter and can easily stabilise at 2.5 bars.

ive tried the evo today via the tank on a rickety table thats too low and had pleasing results.

how any of you can put up not plumbed in (even the drain) is well beyond me!!

i can confirm a point someone raised on another thread, the balance weights ARE required, theyre not just for show but theres no issue with the lever tension with the weights back in place!!

Hey guys! I’m the proud owner of an evo leva machine. A lot of great info on this forum thanks guys for that! My fist question would be about the anti vacuum silicon hose that runs to the water tank. Do I need to shorten it? Mine runs to almost the bottom of the tank do I need to shorten it as it stays above water level?

Adiszep Welcome to the forum, if it’s the vacuum breaker tube, then yes it can prevent suck back of tank wate into the service boiler… Check the actual pip routing carefully first to be sure where the various tubes go and that it is the vacuum breaker tube, not the water level sensor tube etc…

I have 1 tube with water level probe, 1 for water feed, both on left hand side of the tank and the third one, on the right, for vacuum breaker. At the moment I have it partially inserted in the tank and all works perfectly. I will shorten it so it is not submerged in water. Thanks!

3 “tubes” go In there . 1 water in if using it plumbed in. 2. Water out to the pump. 3 electrical wire , water level sensor .

Adiszep as per earlier reply, that is from the water inlet solenoid . It fills the tank when you are plumbed in.

Something I thought I would put out there, for your delectation. There is a reason the group seals on a Evo will last as long as they do, which can be 2+ years in a commercial environment and longer domestically.

In a typical HX" Bosco" style lever group, the 3 seals act as a water inlet valve and the lower one makes the pressure. the lower 2 seals pass the inlet port/s and get nibbled, especially the lowest one which splays out under pressure.. Finally the top two seals are always extra hot as the very hot 124+C boiler water is constantly circulating and of course enters the chamber past (and under) the pressure seal during the initial pull down. This heat and lubricant washout adds more reasons for the relatively short life of their seals.

In contrast the LSM group as used by ACS and Nurri, both never have water washing lubricant from the seals, the seals never pass the port and they never get exposed to the super high temps of the others because of gentle active group heating.

Just in case people were not fully aware of why…unless you had a faulty seal , that no one will have had to replace them due to wear since the Evo launched.

DavecUK thanks for this insight. I just ordered in my grease for lubing the cylinder and I was thinking about the seals hoping they would last a long time without having to replace them. I pull 2-3 shots a day plus 1-2 flushes when I clean the group out. So maybe 5 pulls per day. I was hoping to get a number of years out of the seals so long as I keep things clean and lube things on a regular schedule.

Has anyone encountered an issue with their evo where the grouphead temp on the screen all of a sudden will drop drastically and kick the heaters on indefinitely while boiling the water in group?

My machine for the past couple of weeks has started to show my grouphead at 66c for example when it’s really my set temp of 92c so it will start the heaters and boil the water while never going above 72c. The only way to “reset” the temp is run a shot so the backpressure makes the temp sensor show the correct temp and sometimes that doesn’t work.

I have already emailed Paolo but just wondering if anyone has encountered this and the temp sensor on my group is just dying.

gus6464 Welcome back, but sorry to hear. It’s been reported the first time here.

Yours’ should be barely 2 years old. The cartridge shouldn’t die so quickly. These cartridges should last a long time, if at all it fails. I remember Dave discussing some where here or elsewhere he doesn’t remember any one reporting a failure.

Please check for a loose contact. Does it happen from the cold start as well?

It’s not a straightforward part to replace, given the access and the group requiring 2.

Sorry to ask, what does boiling the water got to do to with the group head, unless you meant the brew boiler kicking in after flushing?

Another question - is your display working fine?
