Has anyone encountered an issue with their evo where the grouphead temp on the screen all of a sudden will drop drastically and kick the heaters on indefinitely while boiling the water in group?

My machine for the past couple of weeks has started to show my grouphead at 66c for example when it’s really my set temp of 92c so it will start the heaters and boil the water while never going above 72c. The only way to “reset” the temp is run a shot so the backpressure makes the temp sensor show the correct temp and sometimes that doesn’t work.

I have already emailed Paolo but just wondering if anyone has encountered this and the temp sensor on my group is just dying.

gus6464 Welcome back, but sorry to hear. It’s been reported the first time here.

Yours’ should be barely 2 years old. The cartridge shouldn’t die so quickly. These cartridges should last a long time, if at all it fails. I remember Dave discussing some where here or elsewhere he doesn’t remember any one reporting a failure.

Please check for a loose contact. Does it happen from the cold start as well?

It’s not a straightforward part to replace, given the access and the group requiring 2.

Sorry to ask, what does boiling the water got to do to with the group head, unless you meant the brew boiler kicking in after flushing?

Another question - is your display working fine?

LMSC When I say boiling I mean that say my group is set to 92c. All of a sudden the display will change and say that the group is 66c and turn on the cartridge heaters. It will keep heating the group thinking it’s 66c until it hits about 74c on the screen and won’t go higher. I will then pull the lever and a ton of steam will come out of the group as it will be considerably hotter than 74c. One time when I pulled the lever a ton of steam came out and when water ran through it it finally detected the right temp and it was 118c. There is nothing wrong with the heaters, the issue is with the temp sensor inside the group where instead of failing it will all of a sudden show a much lower temp than it actually is and the heaters will kick on heating the group to very hot temps.

gus6464 Hopefully ACS will have it resolved soon. Although they are preparing for Host Milan 23, so it needs to be soon!

DavecUK thanks for this insight. I just ordered in my grease for lubing the cylinder and I was thinking about the seals hoping they would last a long time without having to replace them. I pull 2-3 shots a day plus 1-2 flushes when I clean the group out. So maybe 5 pulls per day. I was hoping to get a number of years out of the seals so long as I keep things clean and lube things on a regular schedule.

is there a trick to use more water in the tank? I mean I have 600ml of water left in the tank when the sensor stop and I would like to be able to reduce this remaining quantity to avoid emptying.

What type of level sensor have you got in the tank, over time there have been 3 versions…(earliest to latest)?

Capacitive
Float system through side of tank
Float switch at end of silicone tube

darkstefano the pipe with the cables inside is the sensor. You’ll have to find a way to get it to sit lower in the tank. If there isn’t any slack , you could try and prop the tank up 😀

Hi all,

Long time but after a not insignificant amount of time with a v60, I’m hoping to soon re-become the proud owner of an evo leva - woohoo!

I’m a bit out of date to say the least, but perusing this thread, and considering a df83v2, so definitely a light in the tunnel somewhere.

Only feedback currently from last email (probably covered here already) is that the newer versions have had some tweaks, which I’ll hopefully get to see soonish.

No modding for me for a year or two as I want to avoid v60 for a while!

I have a recently acquired 2 year old Evo.

Sold the df83 after buying niche duo. Also have Craig Lyn HG-1 prime.

Hard to describe what was wrong with the df but I prefer the niche.

@Adrianmsmith intriguing. Niche duo was my first thought, but they don’t take PayPal which led me to some frantic youtubing, and the thought that anti-static grid might make a change.

Current niche workhorse going strong, but in theory my other backorder means I have a grinder shaped space.

So could go either way. Largely persuaded (myself) by a payin3 plan, so it’ll come down to first vendor to accept PayPal (BB winning that race although bit of an eye-watering uplift). The good folks of niche replied with what felt like some disdain that they frown on the paypal and klaviyo overlords…

Well, the time has come to say Sorry. Sorry to @DavecUK for doubting his wisdom.

(I believe) he said “you do not need to weigh your output with the Evo” as it is so repeatable.

Well, here is my 20g in 40g out using the 8 bars is the end method.

Same: I used the scales initially but the guru @DavecUK was right! I hardly bother now!

Likewise - with lighter roasts, Evo delivers a 1:2.5 ratio with clockwork precision - cutting the shot when the pressure drops off the cliff at around 6 bar. So my Luna espresso scales gather dust in the cupboard.

Plumbed in the Evo.

Filling the tank was driving me crazy.

Much better now except a quick question.

Have I fitted the hose connector wrong or is there a slight design flaw in the positioning of the inet. Feet wouldn’t adjust high enough for it to sit on the feet rather than the union.

The wood I have under the feet doesn’t need to be that high but it was what I had in the shed last night!!!

Adrianmsmith Do you have the rear feet screwed into the transit shock absorber holes, check to see if there are others nearby.
