I have inspected the interior and exterior of the machine around the socket area. I don’t see any obvious issues. No scorching, no burnt smells. I tested the mains power at the wall and the plug is fine and other appliances will run off that plug. I have other power cords rated for the same or greater amperage that I can test but i’m hesitant on trying a different power cord until hearing from acs. The power cord also looks fine from my visual inspection.

trey_antipasto definitely try a different power cord, is your ACS one a right angled one, or straight?

DavecUK The included one was right angled but I have spares lying around for computer power supplies. Those are rated at least 10amp like the included cord…I think the ones I have are actually 15amp. I’ll give it a quick try.

Just an update, I tried 2 other cords both rated to 15amps. No improvement. The switch does not light up when I flip it and there is no other activity from the machine.

The switch bit would imply power is not getting that far. Do you have a multi meter (electrical test meter)?

I might but if I don’t I can go get one the store is just a 5min drive. If you can tell me what to check then i’ll be happy to do so. I very much appreciate the input here. I’ll also update with anything from ACS that might be useful.

Be very careful. What is being suggested here is tracing how far power is getting at mains voltage and at supply current. This can kill you. If you are not experienced at tracing back using a multimeter you should not learn on mains voltages. Get your chops in on low voltage stuff and when you understand what you are doing, the risks and precautions to take, consider moving on to mains stuff.

I imagine that any suggestions would be NEVER with the machine plugged in and only using the ohm meter function to detect circuit continuity.
110-240v is for the licensed experts.

i appreciate the warnings. I was not planning on doing any checks with the machine live. I was going to try a continuity test and see where that takes me.

Just an update. I did not electrocute myself 😁

It seems like the continuity test passed for the power socket. Below are the videos on each post. I also tested voltage at the mains and voltage through the power cable as well as grounding etc. All read 123v which is standard for US mains. I did not check live voltage in the machine ! ACS advised I check the green rocker switch next. This is a little daunting because it seems I will have to remove quite a bit of stuff to get to it. I don’t see how I can easily remove the water tray area. So any advice is appreciated from someone who has disassembled the machine @DavecUK . I am crossing my fingers that when I do get to it that something simple like the connector came unseated is present idk.

I can’t say i’m not somewhat enjoying the troubleshooting. I just wish it wasn’t keeping me from my espresso! I might have to bust out the old gaggia. I’ve been on aeropress for a couple days and it just doesn’t hit the same.

I only had an Alpha, which was completely different to production machines…sorry

Just an update, I was able to see the switch with some clever camera/flashlight work and one of the connections is toasted. Will update with any further info.

If this is the water tank area, you can remove them easily to give an easy to the green power switch.

Take the top, the back and the weights off. Please take care while taking the weights off. The side panel separating the water tank from the rest is an L-shaped plate. You can take it off after removing the water tank tray.

I think they are all M6 allen bolts.

Edit:

There is also a few cms width metal frame covering the 2 sides and the back. You may have to remove it as well before removing the L-shaped plate separating the water tank.

Got the 5611.

Probably sell both acs in case I need any future parts. Synchronika parts are much easier to source genuine parts.
Pity as I quite like the actual machines.

That’s a shame, be sure to let ACS know………although genuine parts can be sourced from most spares shops. Apart from machine specific mother boards etc.. which is the same for all machines nowadays…the days of the standard Gicar RL30 autofill box are long gone.

Sorry to hear that. I bought mine in August second hand. No problems so far, but the previous owner had a fair bit of teething trouble with the machine. Like Italian cars, they seem to need a lot of tender loving care.

Well one day someone is going to see the e-mail and realise how easy it is to loose current and future customers!

It’s good you let them know. Maybe it’s a flaw in their process - I can enumerate a few people and companies I deal with and getting them to reply to my emails is often hit and miss. In my case it’s usually a case of the company/person not answering because there’s nothing to answer, as in “sorry I haven’t got you dealing with your case yet” or “sorry we cannot provide the service you ask”. It would be nice to receive an acknowledgement or response, whatever it is rather than leaving the customer in the dark waiting. ACS is not alone in his, believe me. 😊 - And I hope they listen to your advice… as they say in Italy … “Il cliente è sacro”.

I have suggested they always acknowledge recpt immediately.
