If you are talking about the Vesuvius Evo Leva machine, I think (not sure) some people may have ordered direct. You will have to contact the manufacturer http://www.elcor.it/ for a quote and mention clearly it’s a US model. Shipping might make it quite expensive.

Yes, I was talking about the Vesuvius Evo Leva. Thanks. I’ll look into that. I’ve been torn between a Profitec Pro 800, which is available through a couple U.S. dealers, or Londinium Compressa via direct order. I just recently ran across the the Vesuvius Evo Leva as another possibility.

No, ideally we remove the brew boiler undo the bottom plug, drain the water out in the sink, fit the valve, fill the boiler up a lot, then refit it.

We had to do what Daniel did. Possibly, an elegant solution when we descale. Easy to give a full wash before fitting it back!

Same goes for service boiler.

So if it had a real problem priming…wouldn’t be good. It’s why Evos are shipped with water in the brew boiler. My one worry would be, if draining the brew boiler from a tap, would a user remember to switch off the boiler beforehand and not switch it on until it had filled….If they do, then of course they wouldn’t have to fill it up then fit it. But people make mistakes.

Good point. It is always better to fill, may be 250-300 ml before fitting it. In any case, one should switch the brew boiler and service boiler off before doing this. It is a safe practice.

This can’t happen and it doesn’t need last shot protection in the same way, it has it, I believe the level tube is such that it doesn’t shut off the pump immediately, but pumps for a while…there should be enough left in the water tank to fill the lever, it will always make a shot. Or low water will be showing when you are starting your prep.

I’m definitely going to fit the drain thing. Also hopefully a quick connect/push-fit tube to route the water to a bucket. That said not rushing - I’d like to get a cheap endoscope/camera first so I can more accurately inspect inside the boiler. Given coming from China expecting a delay ..

Either we need to leave the bottom plate unscrewed or cut a hole to facilitate this, right ?

Just taken a look, and theres no water level sensor on the brew boiler, so I guess the only way would be logic in the gicar e.g. reservoir empty = disable brew boiler heating …

danielpugh I assuming an empty reservoir auto protects the brew boiler from frying. Dave did say above the brew boiler won’t know there isn’t any water in the brew boiler. Otherwise, it’s risky not to check the reservoir daily, especially of one were to steam and draw water from the tap. 😊

Not quite correct. This happened to me: water level was aparently stuck touching the water reservoir wall so it wouldn’t read correctly. I pulled the lever down, the pump started working but there wasn’t enough water to raise the pressure in the chamber and the pump just kept going. I could hear the pump was running without any water so the brew boiler must have been under the pipe level. I even lifted the lever up but the pump kept going. I had to turn the machine off to get it to stop. No damage as far as I know since it’s been a while since this happened.

So plenty of corner cases 😀

I understand, but the brew boiler cannot empty, because there is no pressure to empty it…so the heating elements cannot be exposed, no damage can occurr and the pump will shut down after 120s (i think it is) and create an alarm condition.

Yep, although should screw in/push quickly when needed - just to reduce need to move machine about. Some thumb screws for the bottom plate would be useful if anyone knows where to get such things.

Parts ordered so should be here over the next week.

What did you order for the quick connect / push tube please?
Are we using the Allen keys for unscrewing the bottom nuts and bolts?
Brew boiler - did you already dismantle from the bottom ? I thought the approach for the brew boiler is not easy as the service.
How many pipes and which one of them did you disconnect? Some pictures will be useful.

Not done anything apart from order - best to wait and see if it all comes together and works first ;-)
[Edit] just clicked that you are ordering today so here is the push fit bit I ordered - hopefully will fit to the tap
