I’m an absolute muppet when it comes to stuff like this 😂

It’s in and I’m semi dialled in for morning coffees - I hadn’t screwed it enough, the video made it look like not much screwing was required! I’m not going to say how long I was scratching my head wondering where the circlip goes when the bottom bit was poking out!!

Now, finally, very excited to get stuck in and start experimenting - see what it’s capable of!

Me again - just looking for an opinion on this, flaking on the portafilter -

It’s flaking all over - could post more photos but should get the jist from this one. Have never experienced this, and I’m only really on day 2 or 3 - had last portafilter for 3 years without issue!

Ando Unusual. Have never heard this before. I think it is an odd piece. Please contact ACS. They will sort out. 😊

Ando Obviously over time the chrome always wears off the ears of a portafilter, but it usually takes a while (not a few days)…Was the portafilter like that out of the box, are the other portafilters OK?

Yeah over time, I agree. But not days into ownership on a very expensive machine. The other two haven’t left the box and are fine - this was fine out the box also. But it has barely been used due to my other issue.

The one thing I noticed out the box was how light it is compared to my previous portafilter. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

My head is close to being completely gone here - the lever is making a knocking sound on its way down - similar to an issue someone else had on this thread (possibly @LMSC, I was reading through thread at lunchtime looking for tips on temps etc).

About to take a video and send to ACS.

There is also a massive seed of doubt that I haven’t fitted the piston back properly - when I pull the lever down with no portafilter the water is favouring the outer ring of the screen if that makes sense? I have no idea if that is normal or not and is exactly why I asked for them not to ship me the safety feature.

Potentially the roller pin. Get a good close up video of the lever action, the sound and send it to ACS.

They may ask you to lube liberally that swing arm and the area around the pin. The intent is to troubleshoot if that sound goes away or gets minimised. If it does, it might be the roller pin. They would know straightaway looking at the video. If this is the problem, I was the only one to report so far. They had sent the whole upper group as a free replacement, although mine is outside warranty.

I should add - I was fully aware of the risk in ordering direct from Italy, but I love the fact they are a small, family run company. Would always rather give my money to them than a big corporate.

And I am also fully aware that owning an espresso machine there is a requirement to perform maintenance - it’s obviously a weakness of mine - but with the support of the very helpful people on this forum I’m not as phased by that as I would be without this place. I’m very grateful for the support and time people give on here.

But I do think I have bitten off more than I can chew here - I have sent a video of the new issue identified and I’m now being sent a new group.

If anyone who is more confident than me wants to take this off my hands, in similar fashion to what Jake did - I am happy to box it up and will drive it to your house. A lot of the extras have likely gone up in price since I ordered so you will be getting a great deal 😂

before jumping to any conclusions, why not post a video of that “knocking sound here” @LMSC issue was a hugely rare occurrence, very unlikely indeed to happen and was probably defective from manufacturer. Before you put yourself through all the hassle of changing it…let me/us hear it. There could be quite a simple explanation!

Never had chrome flake off a PF ever, even bashing directly on work surfaces when I’ve opted not to use tamping mats.

To be fair plating quality varies massively and can be inconsistent between the exact same product. The only way to tell a plating job hasn’t gone well is usually when it starts flaking this early.

I’d ask about a replacement as it might just be a one off.

Sorry to see all the issues though, hopefully you can get it all sorted soon.

DavecUK Top half of the group is what they are proposing sending, poor terminology on my part, apologies.

I sent the video to Maria and that is what she came back with. I haven’t asked for parts, as I have no clue what’s wrong.

It makes a knocking sound when the lever gets to around parallel on way down, and the same noise on the way back up.

The water dispersion doesn’t look right either - with no portafilter in, the water is flooding out one side of the screen, but trickling out the other. Is that an issue? Who knows!?

My confidence in the machine is completely gone, I’m going to spend the rest of time wondering what else isn’t right that I’m missing.

Just far too many faults straight out the box, and for over £4k I can’t handle it!

Agree with Dave. As I wrote earlier, I was the only one to report it so far. Please post a video out here and to ACS. Please take it easy, do not allow yourself to be overwhelmed and it appears to be a big jump, but it isn’t compared to me. I went from £100 machine to machineless for a year to Evo. 😂🫣

Have a check it’s not the white teflon washer.

Was the group hard to fit back to the machine?
Take the group out, undo the bottom, take the white teflon washer out and check it to the one in the spares box. Mine were two different sizes

Cuprajake No the group was okay to get back in - it was hard screwing the bottom part onto the bottom of the springs tight enough to get the shower screen on (the part I posted photo of sticking out) - and extremely difficult to get the safety system out of the group, it wasn’t for moving at all!

Likewise, IIRC. If they are already sending the top half,
you have this covered.

Please do not over think it. It is easy to lose focus when one thing leads to another.

Note down a list of issues you are experiencing and work your way through as you address them. Shame, given what you have paid. 😊

I have barely used it and there are all these faults and issues arising - really struggling to see how I’m going to end up enjoying this.

Yes it’s normal, mine does it as well. It flashes an alarm signal on the RH Display Panel you may not see.

I have asked for that screen to not blank out in my list of improvements. I was told it was because the little alarm signal on the RHD panel comes on before it blanks out and it shouldn’t be a problem…but I I didn’t like the decision to blank it,

This is because a lever machine once the group is charged with water, is still 100% able to produce a shot…So why blank the screen…ever.. Sure you can still go old school on the shot by pulling the container away, if you notice!

The improvement should be retrofittable. I don’t think it can be done in firmware, which is unfortunate, as it will need the users who want to have the new change I asked for to either move the existing display power wire to an always powered low voltage connector, or replace the wire with a longer one to reach an always powered low voltage connector. (they are of course push on connector plugs).

DavecUK This is kind of what I mean, what other things aren’t quite right with the machine that will come out of the woodwork later on?

It feels like there will be other things I’m unaware of now, but will discover with time. This is just going to lead to further disappointment and frustration.

If customers knew about all these future improvements / upgrades I could then decide whether to purchase now and retrofit or wait for the factory to fit it (no prizes for guessing which option I am choosing) (this is what Decent excel at IMO). Surely that leads to higher customer satisfaction levels?

Most prosumer machines have last shot protection on it - having the dosing feature cutting off looks more like a fault than anything else, weird to make decision to have it like this.

I do not understand how anyone can spend our for this kind of machine and keep filling the tank .

It’s beyond me!
