I just prefer something less aggressive, I wouldn’t soak a chrome p[art in Cafiza for any length of time.. When I use Puly, I limit the contact time and never leave a portafilter soaking. The Sodium Hydroxide contributes to the slightly greasy feeling these cleaners have.

rxmnt On another note, is there a way to mess up installing a shower screen? I installed the IMS SML200IM today, and it kind of feels like the water is mostly bypassing it at the sides (sorry for the horrbile video):

In this video, did you activate the flush lever or did you pull the lever? I think it will make a difference since the piston will be down and influence the water flow. But that’s just a thought. Maybe @DavecUK could shine a light on this matter?

I pulled the lever, I don’t really use the flush lever.

The ims screen is thinner than the stock one I found

Also with no pf in place and pressure I believe the flow acts different, I’ve seen reports that the screen makes no real difference

I ended up going back to stock as I hated the loose feel of the ims👍

I did the same today. I’m not sure if it would describe the IMS as loose, but it just felt like it was not fitting accurately.

Dave and you seem to be fans of the small 14-16g basket, I wonder, is anyone else using the 32mm height basket and dosing 20+g?

So yes I’m using the 32 basket, the ACS one is actually better than the IMS one. Period.

Shower screen does not move at all.

21g in the ACS 32 basket. 21.5 decaf. Less than 21g and the puck is like marmite paste.

Stainless circlip. It’s chinesium stainless but is not rusting.

There’s no actual benefit to this or the stock screen. Being as I have this the stock screen will be the spare.

If I have the time I will remove it and compare section thickness to the stock screen.

I generally prefer the taste profile of smaller doses, around15-17g. The larger IMS basket and the stock baskets had way too much headspace unless much larger doses were used. Really depends on what your preferences are, there isn’t a wrong answer.

Thank you, I’ll consider that circlip if I want to try the IMS screen again.

I kind of want to use the small basket and a smaller dose, but I often have issues with channeling, more than with the 32mm basket. Maybe I just need to give it more tries though, who knows.

By the way, is it normal that the machine makes a noise that sounds a bit like bending metal during the pull? Is that just the sound of the spring extending?

Has anyone found a good way to open the piston without the tool? I 3d printed a good fitting tool but it broke (twice).
I was thinking to buy a big spanner put something with a grip and give it a go ?

can you explain, do you mean open the piston in situ, or by withdrawing it from the group sleeve first?

Oh and why do you want to open the piston?

DavecUK opening the piston assembly (situ) for servicing purpose and replacing the seal.

Berryterry Just take the top half of the group of and pull the whole piston assembly out. Then use an angle grinder spanner for changing the angle grinder wheels.

Just in case Paolo, Dave are considering working on a new revised firmware for the dosing controller can I add a suggestion / request please:

Once the system is in dump mode could you add a routine to close the dump valve prior to timeout if the stop button is pressed.

Primary reason for asking is saving shots that were course ground for some reason! I know the correct answer is grind finer before someone jumps in 😎☕
