Sort of yes, it’s the nut that should use permanent threadlock into the boiler, allowing a range of standard fittings to be used.

Just updating on the steam leak situation on my machine. I used an inspection mirror and found it isn’t coming from the vacuum breaker. Mine actually doesn’t look like the pics posted above. Maybe a design update?

Anyway I isolated it to this piece. Unsure if this is the water sensor fitting? Anyway I tightened the top nut that cinches on the Teflon tube per Paolos suggestion. Tightening it aprox ⅓ turn seems to have resolved it for now. I was hesitant to tighten too much for fear of deforming the probe and breaking it. Seems to be mostly resolved now. Hopefully I don’t need to tighten it further or attempt to tighten the bottom fitting which attaches to the boiler. Maybe there is thread locker there idk.

trey_antipasto Be careful when tightening the small nut…as it compresses the teflon sleeve against the probe wire to form a seal….so don’t do it too much.

Yes, the first ¼ or so turn was easy. The last slight turn was where it met resistance. I made it very snug but did not try to overly tighten. I am not sure if the actual leak is coming out of the teflon piece or through the theads on the small nut. I suppose I could try backing out the small nut and adding maybe 1 wrap of ptfe to it.

This morning there is still hissing as the steam boiler warms however once it hits temp the hissing completely stops. I am ok with it if that is as good as its gonna be.

I made progress as well. While I still was not able to fix the vaccuum breaker, I discovered that the hissing (which is getting more and more) is actually coming from this friend here:

You need a very good fitting spanner for the flats on the elbow, it is probably from the days when they were using permanent thread locker (can be really hard to undo), if it was a later machine and they were using semi permanent, you should be able to get it off. You may need to rap the spanner with another larger spanner, to try to shock it off…the idea is not to thump it hard, but short sharp shocks to break the threadlock.

In either case you should clean the threads and yes, you can use PTFE, it needs to feel tight all the way in for it to seal…but don’t go mad.

Note: The elbow is nickel plated brass not stainless steel, so it’s relatively soft!

Thank you so much days, ii think I have fixed it for now and most of the hissing is time.

The last minor issue seems to be some hissing from the t-part under the vacuum breaker. The thread lock probably broke. Guess I have two Options now: 1/ Take the whole machine apart, and fix with ptfe 2/ try to fix with additional permanent thread fix on top and revert to 1 If this does not work…

Currently learning towards Option 2… anything that speaks against that?

You can try, but not sure it will work, or if it does, probably won’t work for long.

Are you aware of a tutorial or similar on how to take the whole machine (at least the case / wand to the water tank) apart?
Still did not manage to search only in one thread with this forum software….

Its relatively intuitive.

The best advice i will give you is .

BEFORE EACH STAGE ; REMOVING ANYTHING ESPECIALLY WIRES is take a photo.

I do this daily even on kit im familiar with

BUY A SHARPY PEN

Mark up wires I II III etc and where to put them then if you delete your photo…..!!

Use good quality hex keys, screwdrivers and spanners. Cheap tools invariably cost money!! Im not a snob i just dont like rounding nuts off or damaging screw heads 😎

Photos like these below wont make your family album but save a lot of wondering if you jump in without thinking!!

The videos help because there is always one part that you don’t get quite right in the pics.

Hi folks, after I fixed the initial hissing problems with the steam boiler (thanks again Dave!!!), my machine now suddenly started to drip.
The dripping comes again from the brew boiler (seems to be hard to keep that thing sealed after 3 years….), but from the bottom this time. I’ve attached pictures from the leaking part below.

Is there any tutorial or guidance how to fix this?
Looks like I have to take the whole machine apart to reseal it, which I absolutely want to avoid if I can. Was also unfortunately not able to find a tutorial on how to remove the casing etc., since all sides are also blocked from an additional metal plate within the frame… no idea how to take it apart.

Thank you a ton for any guidance on how to fix this!

So this morning, in a different thread I, (again) brought up the subject of ( @dfk41 ) not often (!) cleaning the Evo .

I later thought “ ive not tinkered with mine or cleaned it in a couple of months.”

I dont back flush and absolutely definately dont chemical back flush.

I bet the machine will be in a disgraceful state after reading how often some do it.

So here goes…..

Clean moly still on the piston seal and o rings.

Dread to think how many shots ive pulled in that time …..

Will have another look around easter!!

Popped to David’s @dfk41 this morning (9.30am) the Leva looked fabulous on his bench and not as big as I was thinking it’d be. Had my first pull and for some reason didn’t think there’d be any weight to it. Caught me out….. I let David carry on with the shot.

He did me an espresso with a steamed milk cortado size and was beautiful, espresso cut through the milk lovely.

Did love the Leva but only thing I couldn’t live with at all would be the continuous pour and having to move the cup.

Still don’t understand how the levas work and that could cause an issue as heard a few mentioned safety systems. Think I’d prefer a toggle on my machine still, so as much as beautiful to the eye, think I can delete a lever machine from my list.

Thanks for the invite David, learned a lot and how times have changed since I was last in the game. 👌👌👌
