ddoonie I had an issue with the float sensor wire which was disconnecting frequently. It created some issues. Thanks to Paolo, I replaced the float sensor and the fuse on the board. I would check float sensor wire, power cord and fuse. I did not have a burning smell.

ddoonie Does anyone have thoughts or past posts they could point me to to hopefully resolve this issue?

The first thing to do is remove the top and have a look around. Especially the limit stat!

The second thing would be to examine the point the mains cord enters the machine and any receptacle.

Thanks LMSC, i’m plumbed in, so shouldn’t be the float sensor, but will take a look there.

DavecUK, will take a look for sure at the internals. Externally - receptacle and where the cord enters the machine appear to be unharmed or presenting any issue.

Not that it will be the float sensor, im just curious of the statement .

Float sensor comment, my lack of knowledge i’m sure, was more so related to usage of it and it malfunctioning from that point, but of course anything is possible.

Got some pictures of the machine, and looks like it’s where all the wires that are joined, and stored. Any clue what could have caused this? Will send the pics off to ACS as well.

Is it the white wire (braided?) which smoked? Does it go to the bottom right-side of the machine?

Is it a part of the power supply? I don’t remember it and am not at home to open the machine. I could be wrong. ACS will sort out quickly for you.

If I were you, I would unbundle those bunch of wires carefully, see which one of those wires are smoked and trace it to the part. All of these might be different on yours.

That looks like the hard wired mains input they are using for US machines because of the higher amperage draw. It only needs a loose wire or bad connection for arcing to occur and a lot of heat being generated. So inspect each one and you should be looking for the heat source…most likely nearby wires are undamaged, but one connector might be well overheated. replacement of that plus ensuring there are no shorts should solve the problem.

Also double check your machine is set up for boiler priority, not simultaneous operation of both boilers.

The machine itself and it’s components/electronics should be physically fine.

That option wont be in your evo1 and also the braided wires will not be the same now as the pressurestat is no longer. Was one of the changes from evo 1 to 2

Adrianmsmith I don’t think both boilers can be enabled on the US software, but I mentioned it just in case…the user can now look up the setting thanks.

@DavecUK , will trace them. The connector overheating is more a symptom than the cause you’d say? I assume i’ll have to replace all the connectors to ensure they all are in good condition. Good thing there is a little more length on these wires in the junction box.

Will check for boiler priority when i get it back to running.

@Adrianmsmith lol, thank you! I may as well go through all my settings again when i get it sorted in case things reverted or changed.

Will report back after i hear from the ACS team.

No, only the one that was arcing. Just check no others are loose or look overheated inside as if they were getting warm, and tighten.

Paolo also replied to separate the bundles, boot up the machine, and check the F06 setting. Did all of the above, and F06 was set at 1.

Two of the connectors are fused together, so couldn’t separate them, but I taped off the wires to start the troubleshooting process.

Unfortunately I’m not really getting detailed responses from Paolo, and he hasn’t replied to coordinate a video call. I know timezone is likely an issue, but I can work around it… It’s not what I was hoping for support for this piece.

What he did reply is that if not the F06 setting, he guesses it’s a loose wire and just advised to change the wire connectors. So, I’ll swap out all the connectors and ensure they are snug. Hope that was it and nothing else happens.

Let you know if I hear more.

Did you figure out where the burnt wire starts and ends? Besides changing the connectors, you might also want to consider swapping out that part and the wires.

Im sorry if i was a bit short in my reply and miss the video call but from yesterday morning I’m away from Italy and even on video call I cannot show anything. The problem it’s almost clear, machine is US version so F06 set on 1 and it’s ok. The cables can handle 5kw as well as the connectors, if there was a abnormal wattage draws the power socket or the power switch should melt before the other, so I assumed that the problem was a loose cable in one of the joints that caused the problem. Cutting a bit the wires and change the connectors that are very common in every local market should fix the problem. In any case I cannot ask to make any test before that the machine itself back to work.

Paolo_Cortese Even this response would have been a lot more helpful than what you sent me. eg. I asked what gauge wires, rating requirements for the connectors etc..

To anyone else that ends up in a similar position, I ended up switching the 3 connectors with WAGO 221’s (exact types here). Rated up to 32 A/450 V and fit in the junction box. I couldn’t find similar connectors to what were already installed. I’m guessing the wires are 12 awg. No clue if they are adequate, but they work in residential wiring.

Hopefully this resolves the issue permanently and no new ones arise.

Used correctly, I think they will be absolutely fine….as long as the clamp is good on the wires. I’ve seen tests of them properly used and they can actually take way above their rated amperage. The only time there are issues with them, is when they are not used correctly. I have a box of them for whenever i need to join wires together, much better than terminal blocks.

In fact, I like Wago connectors and they will probably work better than the ones ACS are using..plus they are in the electronics bay, which stays quite cool.
