I use megger as a generic term, which is perhaps not so accurate….but well understood by electricians. Megger make high voltage insulation testers, but also many other types of electrical measurement meters, like the one you have or flukes.
Fluke also make high voltage insulation testers
In the same way, in the olden days people would say have you got an AVO meter, using it as a generic term. When I did my electronics course in the 70s I used (and loved) the old AVO meters. Today it’s no longer a generic term, we say multimeter.
The early Meggers were hand cranked to generate a 500V pulse. If you can find one cheap, they can be surprisingly useful. I have used one and they work good for most testing you would need at home. Hard to find a working one, but if you do, snap it up.
P.S. Some vintage stuff can be excellent performance wise. I have an Xpelair Taurus T16 Desk Fan with Variable Speed Control. I acquired this in 1984 and it was 10 ish years old then. it’s now 50 years old, still works, is way quieter and shifts far more air than any modern fan, even ones costing £100. Go on ebay and see if you can buy one…you can’t because no one who owns one will sell it. You will see T8s and T10s for £50 or £60…but I have never seen a t16.
