Would this type of pressure profiling result in a sour cup in the case of light roast, assuming all other variables are constant? I thought it may as pressure profiling until 3 bars is more like an extended duration of PI.

DenisS I was considering rubber vibration isolating fasteners between the pump and the chassis with insulation around that as well. I’ll give it some thought, but, after hearing your experience, I’m not sure it’s the highest priority anymore 😬

Hi All,

Has anyone else started to get increasing water leaks/splurges through the pin that is depressed to trigger the pump? I never used to get, then irregularly, now becoming frequent.

What with the leak near the boiler, the wonky steam arm, slightly wonky drip tray holder , screetchy/scratched lever, missing posh vaccum valve, and pipe I’m starting to feel like I got the Friday build!

Sorry to hear your issues. This is bizzare, how is this even possible ? Did you contact ACS? Please do.

I’ve had every issue that has been mentioned and also a leak which is why I had to remove the boiler. Ignoring all those as e.g. Paolo never came back about the scratches and never mentioned the missing vaccuum valve and pipe.

Focussing on this specific problem (?):
At the rear of the lever there is a second lever that depresses a pin that in turn triggers the pump.
When pulling a shot and the pump starts - for me quite often- water comes out of the pin and dribbles down the outside of the lever into the cup. Feels like a failed seal in that mechanism. I’ll try to get a video as it happens quite fast so pic would just show water residue.

Every production machine has this issue. Hopefully, we will get a resolution once he hears from the supplier.

This is very strange. You are saying it is coming out of the joints holding the pin. I am hoping the small lever pin nut is not very tightly pressing the bottom. Ok happened first time. Looks on closer inspection like coming from the main unit which may be easier to fix. Strange as I have not removed the lever ever

In other bad news I can hear the hiss again so think I have another leak!

danielpugh That’s from the group head itself. I think it’s gasket, which has possibly worn out and needs to be replaced. I might be wrong. Am sure @DavecUK would guide.

@LMSC - re. Vacuum valve - on your machine and others you have the posh metal memory valve with a tube to the drip tray. On mine I have a cheap £10 vacuum valve with no pipe.

Re. Leak - from the video I think it looks like it’s coming from the join between top and bottom of lever. Never taken the lever off, and never leaked when it first arrived so strange.

Re. General stuff - I seem to have many small detail issues. I wouldn’t detract from the machine in general as i still love it! Nearly everyone doesn’t have any issues, let alone the combination I have been blessed with. Slightly drained my energy to hear the hiss/leak again this morning I have to admit - mainly because it took ages to find the last one and was in a difficult to get at location requiring boiler removal…

danielpugh are you pulling a shot in the video, I can’t tell. If not I don’t see how it can leak upwards from the group like that, as the water port is below the piston seal?

You absolutely must write to ACS and detail every fault, very clearly.

I lubricated the head fully a few months ago. I MolyKote from the bottom of the group almost every month. You have some spares. It’s a rubber and can happen, IMO.

Sorry for your woes. I have the brew boiler temp stability issue. It constantly overshoots 2C+. Removing the brew boiler is a hassle. 1) At least, one of the 3 service boiler pipes need to come off for sure. 2) The inlet pipe connection is not easy to remove for ease of access reasons. The screw connecting the inlet pipe at the base of the brew boiler is the most sensible access but risking pool of water. You want to drain as much water as possible through the syringe from the top before removing the bottom inlet pipe screw.

Edit: As we said before, please contact ACS.

danielpugh I had some piston seals start failing in a similar number of months on another lever not too long ago, the previous set seemed to last forever so while I’m not excusing it, these things can happen.

I’d only be concerned if every set seems to fail in such a short span.

Hi @DavecUK - yes am pulling a shot. Flummoxed me too. Had the theory that a temperature gradient resulting in back pressure, but no idea how that would be possible. PID is 8 Deg different (91 Deg group, 99 Deg Brew boiler).

danielpugh If you are pulling a shot, group seal has failed or is leaking, possibly was something wrong from start as it should last year’s.

Remember when you contact them, simple and very clear.

DavecUK It would be worth removing the top section and checking between the bolt holes with a straight edge / steel rule to check the surface between the fixings, also check for raised area (s) around bolt area ?

Check lower and upper component for flatness.

I would love to know why the seal has failed, 3 months is remarkably short…., wmke sure you take photos as you perform @Systemic documented by video procedures. It will satisfy my curiosity.
