SimonBarker I’ve been doing well with my Evo, the machine operates nicely but one thing I can’t figure out is the steam performance, I’m getting a lot of excess water.

Did you get this sorted? Not sure when you get your machine, but I was having the same issue, the steam wand would just pour boiling water at times and lattes weren’t coming out great at all…mine is one of the machines delivered after Christmas that was instructed to snip the pipe in the water reservoir and once i did and ran the steam for a minute or two, the steaming is working perfectly now

This is because for some reason a worker decided to route the pipe from the vacuum breaker into the water tank…this is a really bad idea, because if the water level is above that pipe…it’s to a vacuum breaker. The job of a vacuum breaker is to stop a vacuum forming in the steam boiler as it cools. It does this by opening and allowing air to go in “breaking the vacuum”.

Of course, if the tube is under water….then water goes in and “breaks the vacuum”….which is not what we want at all, because it can overfill the boiler over time!

Snipping the tube ensures it stays above the waterline at all times.

pipedreams86 Yup it’s sorted, I’m finding the Mantis arm a bit of a pain but the actual performance now is perfect, well a bit too powerful for the small pitcher I use but the results have been really good.

SimonBarker My machine seems to have two issues, the first being the steam boiler vacuum we’re all aware of, we have a work around which solves the issue in usage (although I would like to understand what’s causing it, they can’t all be faulty vacuum breakers? Wrong pipe layout?) and the second seems to be a faulty safety valve which I’ve described above, as it’s easily replaced I can’t really get annoyed over a standard part failing, that’s not anyone’s fault.

You did share the video of water leak / steam at the joint of a steam valve / vac breaker. I can see some PTFE tapes sticking out. Did you check if you could tighten the valve a bit a - when the machine is cold?

What’s the issue with the vac breaker?

Included a photo of the internals for comparison on the outlet that leads to the tank, you can see mine is built differently in that area.

Regarding the PTFE, that's normal isn't it?

The third pipe connection to the water tank runs from the expansion valve and the vac breaker. I am not going to judge if the vac connection to the tank is correct. Our machines are connected to the drip tray.

Your video showed a leak from the steam valve side.

Could you advise us what the problem is the vac breaker ? You had asked in the previous post what’s causing the problem with the vac. Please explain .

If you trim that pipe, the flushing issue from the steam tip will be resolved.

It is! My doubt was, considering the leak, can that be tightened a little? If there is a room to tighten. it might stop the leak. I will be careful not to over tighten it. Does it make sense ?

SimonBarker your piping and everything looks as it should be…without the extra plonkas pipe from the Vac breaker into the water tank <sigh>. It’s a long story how it happened, but a certain worker at ACS who needs a kick (has needed one for a long time), was the architect of this little temporary invention. Paolo has had words!

No, the steam valve is letting by from the relief port, something is wrong with the mechanism, I’ll check the video again, but am sure it needs replacing.

I think the leak / bubbles were first coming out of the left-side of the brass nut and later the steam from the bottom on the same side.

SimonBarker No. It’s perfect IMO. It’s a slight inconvenience if you have to remove the boiler as we did to install the drain valve under the steam boiler.

In current setup, this inconvenience is addressed. However, we can’t fill the reservoir to the brim, which we always do. 😊

Edit: The inconvenience of the connected tube = a little restricted access while connecting / disconnecting.

I can’t understand the button in the center. On the evo manual indicate C/F, but this seems to indicate an led ON/OFF. You know what it is referring? The boller leds on the left do not react to the change.

darkstefano Been a while, but I think that’s an option for the Vostok, remember the same software is used on both machines, which is why you can enable more than 1 group.

Yes, the Light button is ineffective on the Evo Leva, and I understand it is used to light the drip tray of the Vostok.

The user manual and some of DavecUK’s videos are not based on our version of the firmware where the temperature unit setting is now in the advanced button (with the PID controls, etc.), where I think it belongs

I am trying to get a tall funnel made to make using the Honne grinder better with the Evo, I want to have a 58mm opening with wings at the top so that it will clamp in to the spring clip on the grinder like a 58mm portafilter does, and then hold the 54mm portafilter in place on the bottom. It also needs to be taller than other funnels I’ve tried such as the 54mm Bravo, as I’m finding the grinds sticking in the bottom funnel of the Honne with the 54mm baskets.

This listing on Etsy is very close to what I want, and the seller is willing to customise the top to fit the Honne but he wasn’t sure if the bottom twist on design would work with the Evo portafilter the way it does with the Sage, if anyone knows whether these are the same/interchangeable? Or if I’m missing a better solution to using the Honne?
