That will be consistent with we asking him to check if the piston head is tightened well. We can’t explain it otherwise; of course, a dent on the side wall as you showed on one of the images.

DavecUK Dave, There are 3 possibilities; 1 and 2 are possible, although I think the dent will have to be a bit deeper to have an impact. Furthermore, this can’t suddenly result in a leak as he didn’t have problems for 3 months. For the possibility 3, the water will have to raise past the lower gasket first.

I remember the dent in the middle of the lower chamber.
The piston head isn’t tightened well.

Sorry - think I confused things way back. It leaks only when the lever is down not when the shot is being pulled - sorry that’s me. As soon as the piston starts descending the pump stops and so does the leak. However at that point a fair amount streaming down the side of the group.
It was very tight at first and leaking, albeit only after about 3 months. Then I replaced gasket. At first finger tight, then tighter following suggestion. It’s pretty tight now - put some elbow into it …
I think the mark in the picture is just water, although to be fair not checked. So that just leaves the o-ring. Very confused as to what is causing this - bit of a mystery!

danielpugh Subject to advisory from Dave, could you check the following please ?

Please check if that’s actually the water mark
Is it possible to remove that O ring, put a tiny grease and put it back please ?
If you haven’t removed and greased the piston the way Patrick showed in his video, would you mind doing it please ? I am thinking if other parts aren’t as tight as they should be. Please use PTFE where required while assembling.
Did you apply a tiny Molykote to the bore last time? Perhaps, try that

You said the gasket and piston heads are pretty tight now. Does it still leak? It’s bizzare the water goes straight up ? When you cock the lever, is the porta filter locked in place or is there a coffee powder in the basket ?

Morning from Australia.

Long time lurker from the “other forum” and finally received my Evo Leva since reading about it late last year.

Firstly, I love it! Looks amazing and is a blast to use.

First problem though, after about 5 shots with milk over a couple days the steam boiler wasn’t heating up. With help from another user (not sure if he’s on the forum yet) I checked the pressure stats, all ok.

Long story short it ended up being a loose (not tightened properly and one turn from unscrewing) terminal in the steam boiler relay (red box with light on it) the shared earth for everything was also not as tight as I’d have liked.

Presto! Everything works.

On a side note can someone point me to the discussion/video on temp offset as my factory settings creep a bit. I have read it before but can’t find it!

The metal pin comes into contact with the small lever — after the lever is locked down. Is it an open chamber or a pipe where water rushes to the inlet valve? A wild thinking is, is there a chance, when something is faulty here (inside the chamber of the green oval circle), the water is straightaway pushed up through the back of the group. Don’t laugh at me! 😁

A valve, which feeds only the water jacket of the steel wet liner and exits at the bottom of the group, below the piston.

Camby No probs, it is a super easy fix but feel free to DM or ask here if you need any help doing it. Maria at ACS was also very quick and helpful getting me set on fixing this. I would suggest using the smallest magnetic screwdriver you can find, as the space to adjust the screws and take the clear cover off is very small.

Hi All, quick update - some seals and o-rings arrived from Paolo which i have just fitted. Much touching of wood, but 6 shots without leaks so far. Relevant info which may be of use…

i replaced both the lower gasket, the upper o-ring and the teflon bit.
to replace the upper o-ring you do not need to unscrew the springs.

Wish i had known as scratched the chrome as had to use a vise, only to realise the whole part comes out with the o-ring embedded. To remove the o-ring you just lever out with e.g. a screwdriver.
the new main gasket has a much bigger lip than my original two or the two i got as i had used the spare from ferrari espresso. so there does seem to be signficant variablity which is strange - (these were ones i got - https://www.ferrari-espresso.com/product/izzo-my-way-leva-piston-seals-x-2/).
i could see very little wrong with the o-ring apart from it seemed to have oil behind it which may be a factor. After replacing i used a thin coat of moly 111, and the same on the other gasket.
Having removed the part that holds the spring, i screwed up till it hit resistance. Not particularly tight but firm, and obviously not meant to go further - not sure if that is good or bad.

so in all the cause of the leak is a mystery, but fingers crossed gone.

next minor job is to fix the wonky steam connection - hoping this job is easier

danielpugh The leak was the main seal…the O ring is not for holding back water under pressure like that. Makes me wonder if somehow and incorrect main seal was fitted and supplied….who knows. Just glad for you that it’s sorted.

danielpugh Glad you fixed the problem. It’s a mystery. However, as Dave said, unless the lower gasket, which I think you call it as a main gasket, is weaker, the water can’t shoot up. Now, you can concentrate on fixing the steam wand, install the RO and fall in love with her again. 👌
