Here is a question for Dave Corbey and/or Paolo Cortese (and it may have been asked and answered before…if so, I can’t find either!? 🤪

The ‘chirp’ sound that an Evo makes periodically is normal (for an Evo)….isn’t it?

Why does the Evo do this and can it be circumvented?

The pump start when the pressure in the system go under a certain value. Of course there is always a fluctuating pressure when the boiler are warming or cooling, of course if there aren’t any leaks somewhere. So it’s normal that the pump start a bit every 20/30 minutes if not used. fatser pulse means that probably there is a leacking somewhere that you should see. keep me update.

Paolo5 By chirp, If you mean the pump, I thought before you meant when making a shot? Yes it might run for a 0.5 sec to maintain the pressure in the brew circuit as Paolo says…but too often means there might be a slow leak. somewhere, either a 1 way valve or the group valve. Limescale would be a huge culprit for this if properly treated water isn’t used.

The other thing could be a particle of something under a valve seat.

Paolo5 I had something like this - an occasional pump chirp that occurred with higher group temperatures and traced it to the pump actuator lever behind the group. I had to adjust to give very slight play between the actuator and rod that goes down into the group which triggers the pump. You can see a lock nut and thread that allows for adjustment. After adjustment there is no pump chirp. Hope that makes sense.

It is the same pump sound that you can hear when you first turn the machine on….(the famed 2-4 ‘chirps’).

My Evo makes a single chirp periodically…say every 15 to 20 minutes when it is idling between shots.

I had the same problem. It was the fitting that holds the level probe, on top of the service boiler. I took the fitting out and wrapped some PTFE tape around the thread and remounted it. Now the pump doesn’t run more often than once in 20 minutes.

LMSC Doubt it, you can’t hear that one really.

DavecUK It also reminds me of a low battery in our smoke, fire and carbon monoxide sensors. I do not think the clock battery would run out so soon and not for a long time.

So,…

First two drinks done with the leva,

Gave it a good clean, some fresh rodi. I grease the valves etc and set the boiler and group temp

First drink was my usual brazil for milk. Ive usthe same grind sizes id with the bianca just as a set point.

16g in the double basket, came out a tad over extracted, but in milk perfectly fine. Speaking of milk the wand has a 3 hole tip, im the wrong side so need to re learn, but steamed quick, no drama, quick purge not so much water. Which was a concern.

The second extraction i went with one of my lighter roasts, 18g dose this time but same grind. Tamped with the amazing loose stock tamper 🤣 pulled the shot

Taste wise, sweet bright and more so drank it neat, which i never do…i can still taste the sweetness now

So for the first two shots very happy

Im going to get a ims basket, any suggestions on part number? Maybe a b plus and a fresh tamper base.

IMO, puck screen is not a good idea on Evo. It’s up to you.

Congratulations Jake - welcome to the club. Recommend IMS B662Th26M. I dose it anywhere between 17.5grm - 18.5grm and it works fine.

Cuprajake Btw, grabbed the 54.4 mm from Jens - Torr Gold Convex. Later, we ordered 54.9 mm from Gilberto. The Torr is used for 16g dosage and Bravo if 18g.

Also got the IMS shower screen and IMS 32, which is gathering dust!
