Enjoying my Evo Leva so far. Two questions I would like to put for this knowledgeable forum.

I have my Evo plumbed. Without using the pump. Line pressure about 2.5 bar. I am brewing at 97 coffee boiler and 89 group. When the machine idles for say an hour and after that hour I do a flush, the water rushes fast out of the group. Not the usual “rain” A flash boil with steam. If instead of a flush, I pull a shot, the puck gets all distorted at the top. I wonder, if all parts are pid controlled and I stay at max97, no water should ever be reaching 100 degrees. So why a flash boil?

Other thing is the coffee boiler takes about 2 minutes after a shot to recover to 97. Goes first slowly down to 95 and then after about two minutes quick to 97 and stays there. Two minutes is a bit long if making back to back shots. There is of course cold water from the mains entering the coffee boiler that could be the culprit. I am using the latest advised pid configuration. Maybe I can speed up the recovery by changing the pid setting. But does anyone have any suggestion what exactly to change in which direction?

Are you sure it’s flash boiling
have you got any offset values in the advanced settings?

The sensor is at the top of the boiler and th4 cold water inrush is also there…it takes a little time to mix…I wouldn’t worry though because the group will easily compensate if the brew water is a few C lower.

I am not sure it is flash boiling. I see no values to offset in the advanced settings. Like you can at the Bianca you mean. Only the time out for boiler fill can be set. And the pid values of course.

Today I lowered the the mains pressure a bit. And after that could not replicate the “flash boil” anymore. So maybe all is well now.

Nice to know not needing to worry about the slow recovery of the coffee boiler. Taste was good all the time. Thanks for the help.

I’m sure this has been asked and answered, but a cursory search yielded nothing. So…

Anyone have any opinions on EDIT- puck screens for the IMS baskets, specifically the B662TH26M Wanted to buy a few to have on hand but wasn’t sure of the actual diameter on these.

I had one custom made, can’t remember the size

Though for an Evo I don’t personally think they offer much

E61 I use them to keep stuff clean.

The click sound popped up in recent weeks. I opened and fully greased the piston 2 weeks ago. I also sprayed food-safe silicone spray. It disappeared only for a few days, although the noise is no longer as loud as before.

I think it is coming from the lever handle connection. Is it ball-bearings?

No, I think it’s probably from the spring…

LMSC Try and get some Molykote III, use thatt and also try and get it in the base of the springs where they seat.

I tried to grease with and without the lever in a locked position between springs. Can’t see the base. The sound is still there, perhaps, a little louder this time.

I don’t think I want to remove the springs, grease and put them back. It will not only be very tight to get out, while I may also struggle to put them back.

As I said before, is it, by any chance, from the handle shaft area - ball bearings?

I do not think it is anything to do with the piston head gasket.

It’s been my main suspicion from the beginning.

Do you think it’s the ball-bearings? How easy / difficult to remove and put them back.

I’m starting to explore increasing and decreasing temp profiles and retarding the lever to pull and 8 bar shot etc. Can anyone else share experiences? Did you reach any conclusion? My favourite so far is a flat temp profile but a lower pressure shot. Tastes sweeter over all but no loss of texture

I find it’s inconsistent holding the lever so alway let it do it’s thing

Use grind to alter pressure.

Paper on the bottom speeds the shot up too

What temps are you at, I do miss the lever
