Have you checked the pipe in the water reservoir that takes the water into the system? I found on mine that the constant lifting of the black plastic lid was stopping the pipe from being deep enough to be covered with water. Some folks tie a stainless steel nut to the pipe to try and counteract this

I used filtered water or water with a custom recipe. However I opened the machine up today and found scale on the underside of the serviceboiler, as well as rust on the grill on the underside of the Evo. It just keeps on getting worse I guess. I’m currently descaling to see if this helps.

deiadri Hi Adrian looks like the pump is running without the lever being pulled down (against a closed valve)? Then when you pull the lever, of course the group valve opens and the pump speeds up.

This leads me to believe you have a faulty pressurestat.

Which would probably be the reason for the “other” problem where the preinfusion pressure climbs too high.

I’ll grab a pressurestat from the spares box at the factory and bring it back with me on my flight tomorrow.

I reckon there is enough meat there, looking at my 58mm Force.
It would be pretty expensive to turn the whole thing down from a new piece of billet stock but even cutting up a large SS "washer’ to weld on and then turn down might work.

Looking at your video, it really shouldn’t need much of a recess to sit nicely on the basket lip especially if it is machined to match the profile.
I’ll have to wait until I have the stock basket and maybe the IMS? before I decide which one I like.
I’ll keep you in the loop.

If you have scale then that may be the issue, or it had a small leak under the boiler and the drip has caused a dust spot.

All machines can get it.

What is your water, after the descale maybe change it up

For sure going back to my custom water recipe which I used to use in the beginning. Just went on a nightly walk to the supermarket and bought 10 liters of distilled water.

So I did the following:

I read some posts ago that the frequent activation of the pump can be due to pressure getting lost from the brew circuit. I switched off the service boiler and the pump activations just continued, so I guess this could be the case.
Also read that adjusting the pressurestat helped somebody to fix this problem. I turned the screw ¼ turn clockwise and the frequency dropped to about 4-5 minutes. However preinfusion was still around 4 bars. I then choked the machine with a shot and adjusted the pressure downwards until I hit 2 bars again. I’ve been waiting for 15 minutes now and no pump activation until now. Very nice.

I will finish the descaling and and then reseal every Seal and screw I see scale on from the outside.

While doing all this I noticed that a drop comes from the shower screen every few seconds, so I guess the group needs now seals. Can somebody give me a link where I can buy the fitting ones?

deiadri Does the water drip from the group all of the time or just when going through the heating up process? It is quite normal apparently to drip when heating up (someone did explain why but I have forgotten). Every now and again, mine goes through a period where it drips for an hour or so when warm then stops

deiadri Group has an open chamber, so what dfk says is completely correct. It can also happen after a shot for a while.

Changing steam tip from 3 hole (from factory) to the supplied 2 hole BUT it’s different, factory one is (left side) has a small tube attached to it, the spare part 2 hole one doesn’t, am I suppose to pull that tube out?

Also, the touchscreen, is it me, am I doing something wrong…. The Accept/Tick….. Its so hard to execute it.

I’ve tried… light touch, firmer touch, touch and hold 2sec, touch and hold 5 secs..

It’s a hit and miss, longest I spent trying to execute a change in brew temp was 30secs tapping on the accept/yes

Rest of the screen seems ok

It is to allow a ‘cool wand’ tube to be fitted over. Some cool wand tubes fit over others fit inside the tip.

Regarding the LCD sensitivity issue, this is an issue which others have experienced too. How to resolve it is explained for instance on page 52 of the EVO (Unofficial) FAQ in my signature.

Eiffel maybe I’ll skip that little part for now…..just got the machine, havent even dialed my grinder in for the 54mm basket, only so much I can/should drink in a day

got some noob questions about the machine, I’m curious why a 54mm portafilter was chosen instead of the more common 58 in case anyone knows, and also how do you find 54 compared with 58

Initially it was wierd, felt smaller and basket prep was harder

But once you get used to it it’s fine

A good tamper helps and most users move over to the ims competition baskets

Interns if the group size you’d have to ask LSM I suppose I know @DavecUK highly rates the 54mm group over that of the 58mm levers.

A lot of traditional levers have baskets smaller than 58.
Caravel = 43
Cremina = 49
La Pavoni = 49
Strietman = 50
Faema = 51

There is a generally accepted theory that the deeper/narrower baskets are more forgiving of puck prep and (possibly) give a better extraction.

La Spaziale group is 53mm. This is a very traditional and popular machine in a commercial environment.

Sage/Breville mid range machines are 54mm.

La Pavoni lever group has grown in size to 51mm 23 years ago.

Ponte Vecchio lever group is 45mm.

Lelit make machines with a 57mm group…. Same as Ascaso, but not sure they still make them or moved to 58mm.

I read something somewhere that only reason 58mm is popular is due to the Faema E61 group once the patent ran out and clones started appearing, and hen the increasing popularity of pumped heat exchanger machines.
