Neighbourhood Kenyan - Blackcurrant, Rhubarb and Gooseberry
First, a big thank you to them for sending this free with their decaf.
I think pulling a shot from a bag of Kenyan was asking for trouble, that too when the bag contains the above notes. I avoid Rhubarb and Gooseberry on the bag as one of the flavours, let alone together that too with blackcurrant! 🤣
First shot of this bag, 18g powder, 46.3g liquid, 93C group and 99C brew. The beans was medium light. The shot was too long, had a doughnut beading and I need to loosen the grind sufficiently.
I was expecting the espresso to taste very acidic, sour and tart with a total lack of sweetness. I was partly wrong. The acidity was just right, it wasn’t bitter and the espresso would have been very sweet except the spoilers, which were elevated levels of tartness and an earthy taste (like eating raw mushrooms). The problem was it remained as a bad after taste I had to pull a shot off North Star’s The Docks Blend!
Compared to this Kenyan, the Kenyan Mikari was very good and the Evo brought the best out of Mikari. I won’t be dialling this beans again on Evo. I will exclusively brew this on V60 and Clever. 🤣
