Foundry Columbian Natural - cup score of 88

First dial at 90.5C/96.5C, same grind setting as before and 1:2 ratio lasting 21s. Good coffee but it was too acidic.

Given the sensory information and the level of acidity expected of this coffee, I pulled the remaining two cups at 92/98. Also tightened the grind a bit keeping the ratio and the dosage the same at 18g. The pour was faster and still had a mild spray at the start lasting a fraction of a second. The shot requires further tightening as it lasted just 19s.

The coffee was lovely to drink as it is or with milk. The flat white is perfect as it gave a nice and a sweet coffee.

My wife and mother-in-law didn’t like their coffee even with milk. I will be brewing it later today. The bulk of the bag will be used for brewing as I will be consuming this mostly. I will post my thoughts later in the day when I have had a chance to brew on V60.

I would recommend this bag but it is not for every one as you will be greeted with a herbal medicinal flavour (cherry balsam). It is nice but be warned!

@LMSC Is the espresso come out right away when you pull the lever down? Or this is when you let the lever go up? I wonder about the pre-infusion time since it is different than the E61 head that I had.

pull the lever down the pump runs the pre infusion 2-3bar, then you lift the lever and the pump cuts and the dual springs take over, 10bar is, most pull the shot around 8bar/7.5bar - use scales till you get used to it,

forget what you learnt with the e61, i find a quick pre infusion then a quicker shot often tastes better than a long slow drippy pre infusion followed by a long pull

We have run out of “good” beans, and we are leaving tonight for Italy, so we are drinking Illy. Even ground quite fine (and the tin was opened yesterday night) it doesn’t hold pre-infusion at 2 bar at all, it starts pouring at 1.5, so I just let the pump get there, and release the lever with the first drops. It’s not too evil - though I do admit I like dark coffees.

Horsham Peruvian Washed!

Very nice. It is a great coffee to drink as a short or a long black. Dosed 18g for 40g into the cup at 92C/98C. The shot below is the second dial and lasted almost 30s .

The first dial (18g:40g:92C:98C:a little coarser than the second) lasted just 23s. The coffee was good and the acidity was a tad muted in the first than in the second. I preferred the first dial than the second.

They recommend 17g for 40g of espresso lasting more than 30s. I think it will benefit from a little more longer ratio to add another 3-5g of liquid.

Hello, after changing my pressurestat, that was leaking causing a short circuit 😟, my water pump goes crazy, like you se in video attached. I suppose its a pressurestat problem but I don’t know how to adjust, has a plastic cap. Any idea?

You need some coffee in a portafilter first, then set a camera up to record the gauge. See what the pump pressure is for infusion. Then we can adjust. If you pop the red cap off there’s a screw under it. The smaller screw is the duty cycle. Don’t touch it yet. If at all

Sorry because I don’t presented myself, I have a Evo from the second butch, august 2021, machine no 19, no problems so far(only human errors :)) ) till the pressostat. Here is a movie extracting a shot.

It’s short because preinfusion it’s short, and after the chamber is full the pump stop’s and there is no more to show. It seems like pressurestat cut’s the pomp too quickly, because the pressure its setted too low. The new pressurestat has a plastic cap on the middle screw(the big one) that moves a little, but I’m not sure if this is for preinfusion pressure adjustment, or I need to remove the cap in order to reach the screw.

ok so atleast we have a video,

the red cap needs removing

theres a screw under there, this is the pressure adjust ( white arrow)

the red arrow adjusts how quick the pump reacts to a pressure drop, hence the buzz buzz buzz you can hear,

for the next test, grind a little finer than this shot, it will allow us to see the pressure, and give you a tad more time before lifting the lever, try not to choke the machine, im guessing both may need a little tweek

Horsham Brazil - smooth, clean and very sweet - medium roast

First dial, 16g, 38.8g liquid, 90.5/96.5, 50s. It’s so good as a long black,
I made another cup for a flat white. Cuts very well with milk. Chocolate
and nutty flavour for me with a light fruity acidity. With milk, it will be on the lighter side and hence a flat white in the ratio of 1:3 to espresso to milk will be perfect.

Here is the edited video as I had to delete frames containing my family.

I will grind a little coarser for the next cup.

Btw, the below is the Neighbourhood Columbian Decaf, which I opened yesterday; it was excellent.

Please don’t expect the Horsham Peruvian and Brazil to be standout bags. These coffee bags are very good, consistent with the roast and importantly we get the flavours as described, assuming we don’t mess up the brews/shots.

@danielpugh Great, you found some time to check our forum! Hope all well and you fixed any outstanding issues with the Evo. I guess, you didn’t have to deal with leaks anymore. :-)

@LMSC yes it has been a while. Been manic generally both work and home life. Evo has been great, still waiting to get round to un-crooking the steam pipe but not really an issue of anything other than my laziness! Building up to a re-grease but otherwise just catching up on events…

Calling all IMS basket users-

I have been successfully using the B662TH32M basket with 20gm of grounds. There is PLENTY of clearance between the tamped bed and the screen.

Do any of you Evo users use the B662TH26M basket? How does it work with 20gm of grounds?

Any more and the grounds spill out while wdt, once tamped fine
