Kenya Ndundu AB Washed. Has been a while since I have purchased anything direct from Falcon Micro. I have kind of fallen in love with African coffees this year, in particular coffee from Rwanda and Kenya. I currently have 3 different Kenyans on rotation, each very different and tasty, so thought I would add a 4th to the list with these greens.
Did this 320 gram batch this morning based on a tasting of a sample I roasted a few days ago - weight loss of 12.5%. I am happy to say that this one is also very impressive, and very different to the other Kenyans I have roasted. Trying the sample roast in the Aeropress this one surprised me by having quite a bit less acidity than the other ones, and in general a lot sweeter. It's one of the few times I get all the notes in the description of this coffee. Starts out with some sweet peaches, berries which give some acidity (unsure what type of berry), toffee (reminds me of toffee poppets) and has a heavy, creamy body…quite possibly one of the creamiest coffees I have tasted. It makes it an interesting and highly enjoyable cup in my opinion - definitely the focus of this coffee is that creamy mouthfeel and sweeter tones with the toffee and peach, that I find a real hit. Now having a 4th Kenyan in rotation I really think that it is fast becoming my favourite origin. Every time I go to my coffee shelf I bypass all the Colombians and go straight to a Kenyan. It's difficult to describe, but I just find them highly drinkable and enjoyable, no matter what brew method I use.
