Off to London child free this weekend with other half - first visit there since taking up this mad hobby.

We are staying near Bank subway station in the City.

Looking for recommendations for good reliable coffee shops - wanting to try V60 for first time from somewhere good (nowhere near me) and will try espresso also hopefully (not sure I like it - but have only ever tasted my own which leads to self doubt etc) - I stick to flat whites in the house but wanting to explore other options etc..

Ando For Italian-style espresso, the Caffé Vergnano outlet on Holborn, near Chancery Lane, is not a bad starting point. It’s in one of the very few Tudor buildings left in London, so worth going to see anyway (and it’s a 20 minutes walk from Bank, passing by St. Paul’s churchyard and Paternoster Square, so it’s not a bad walk either, if the weather is pleasant, and a 2 station tube ride if it isn’t).

Working in the city - I’d try any / all of the following:

Watchouse - Bishopsgate

Rosslyn - Mansion house and Moorgate

Prufrock - bit further near Chancery Lane

Notes - Moorgate and Gherkin

Only thing to watch is they aren’t alway open at the weekend being in the squaremile so double check. Borough market is worth a walk to visit the likes of Monmouth.

Rosslyn definitely.

There is a Store Street by Liverpool Street that is my favourite of all in the city. Their baristas are amazing and love to share knowledge. Open weekends. It’s by Spitalfields where there is also Climpson and Sons in the lively market.

Store st serve redbrick as standard but also single origin, and interestingly do 15g / 35g at 5 bar as their standard recipe.

Prufrock also worth a trip if you have time.

simonc when in discussion with Store St barista about my troubles with late art and not knowing if it was my milk steaming or pouring technique she offered to let me pour my own flat white so I could see what proper milk should look and feel like pouring.

You’re next to Shoreditch so spoilt for choice!

Ozone Coffee (roastery cafe) on Leonard St is arguably one of the best espressos in London. I haven’t been since I moved out of London a couple of years ago but the food used to be very good also.

Origin have a place on Charlotte Road, not far from Ozone.

Attendant on Great Eastern Street used to do a good flat white too!

All of the above are a few minutes walk from each other.

There’s also a great pub called the Old Blue Last just down the street from Attendant although again, at the rate London changes it may not be as good these days!

It’s not the easiest place to get to via public transport from the city - (tube to Stratford then Overground back to Homerton) but Dark Arts Coffee roastery cafe is also usually great. Rosina Street in Homerton.

I don’t miss much about London but the coffee is very much one thing I do! Enjoy!

We’ve tried a few on our visits to London and ozone always stood out. The food is superb as well

So a bit of a disaster on the coffee front - flight was delayed Friday which scuppered any opportunities then.

We were on way to Rosslyn on Saturday morning / afternoon when we came across one of the proclamation events (had no idea what we were watching at the time) managed a takeaway flat white but no more than that as went back to watch what was going on.

And then Sunday neither of us could face coffee due to forgetting that we are no longer in our 20’s on Saturday night!

Have taken a note of all the recommended places as will be back at some point either socially or with work - thanks for all the tips!
