In the last few days I am having issues with forum features not being available. When this happens, I am having the following issues: - No option to Like a post (three dot menu only has the Flag option). - No option to quote from a post (nothing appears when selecting text). - No option to Reply to a post (nothing where the option is usually displayed). - No option to add photos to a post (instead of a few options in the menu, only the option Add an image appears, but instead of working as normal, selecting it brings this code: ![](https://)). - No option to Preview a message in the bottom menu bar. - Notifications only showing the name of the thread, but no specific information that is usually there. - Possibly other things that I forgot. Then, after a while, everything is back to normal. And then it happens again. I assume the problems are on the forum side, but maybe it's just me?

I was having some as well and I noticed they restarted the hosting servers a few times yesterday. At the same time I was experimenting with some extensions and found one that was causing a problem. I removed them, but the changes can take time to ripple through the database. I think because the Cron jobs (unix) have quite a low resource allocation. This is why, pms have to be done with a good long gap in between, because they use a real time push command…but with low resource allocation, if you try and do another when the first isn't finished (error error..X). if I change, add or remove and extension, this can often make things weird for a bit until that change has rippled through…**especially with the likes system**. Yesterday I disabled it and then re-enabled it and it was strange for a while until it had gone through the database. I am actually removing some unnecessary modules and ones that don;t work as they should…this flipping approval of posts. Nightmare, because I don't know why it's flagging so for approval incorrectly, so I just disabled it and will deal with the spammers manually as we did on CFUK. I think of people have not added us as an exception to their ad blockers and pop up blockers, that may not be helpful. Lastly, when I make a change, if you are logged on, sometimes you might need to close the tab/refresh the window, for it to work properly….The good news is, I'm pretty much finished making changes by adding/removing extensions/functions. It's been a complex environment to learn in a short time, made harder by some extensions with small bugs which show themselves when pushing them to the limit of what they are supposed to do.

This might explain why I got an email at 21.27 last night telling me that a post I had made had been removed for having something in it that we might not want to see, or words to that effect. However having checked the very small number of posts I have made they are all still there!

@"Dumnorix"#p1187 I just disabled all the anti spam, were small enough they won't bother us much and if they do…I will take measures then. I have a few simple measures that I can perhaps take. So hopefully you won't see those messages again. My thoughts to reduce spam might be to allow users to register and until a mod elevates them to full user, their posts have to be approved. in this way a spammer usually discloses their intentions on the first post…not knowing it's going to go to approval. We shall see.

Occasionally I need to log out and log back in to restore the ‘like’ and ‘reply’ buttons. I thought it was just my phone acting up.

I disabled the big purple people eater header as well, I was suspicious of it, and achieved the same thing through dropdown menu items on Flarums own top bar. I didn't know I could do dropdowns. so one more possibly troublesome and to be honest, unattractive extension gone.

Currently having the problems again. Yesterday I thought it was because I had another tab opened with an active message box opened, but today it's happening without that. Behaviour is the same: No Like/Quote/Reply to and the bottom menu has less options. Can't add a photo as there is only one button, and pressing it brings up this code: ![](https://). I also don't see Likes on any messages, though I know they are there. Surely it will sort itself out later, but it has been happening quite often on my side. (ah, no option for emoji either).

There is a way I can almost always induce that error. If when looking at the lists of new posts and **I right-click a post to open it in a new tab**, the "like" option is not there. If I then close that tab and click to go to the post, or use the left-hand menu to go to the post…the like option reappears. As you can see I pin the pop out side menu, which you can make appear when viewing a thread by moving the cursor to the left. I can then go from new post to new post just by clicking on the list and not needed to open new tabs. Hope it helps. The pop out side menu is just the list of posts that appear on the home page…and speeds things up, rather than going backwards and forwards from the home page. @"DavecUK"#p1231 Yep, I can confirm I have also noticed the issue is usually (not always - sometimes it doesn't happen, I think) is induced when opening messages in new tabs. This is how I am used to browse forums: I go over the main list, open all the threads I want to read, each in a new tab, then go over them. I will try to avoid that here, because it doesn't work well. However, if that can be fixed it would be good, because I am not the only one who uses the browser like this. I saw another message from a person who said they got a code instead of a photo (can't say in which thread, because it's not opened in another tab, :)) - I bet it's the same issue. When you have the issue - you can't drag and drop a photo to the post - it doesn't work.

If you can use the pop out menu, it's really good and much better than CFUK

Not sure if this was discussed or not DavecUK, but when looking at the main page on PC the names of read and non-read threads seem to be of the same shade, so it’s not easy to see the difference. The number of new replies is very clear, but I think that a few changes ago it was easier to see what threads were already seen.

The difference between read and non-read threads is very clear on mobile (see under the screenshot from PC), so perhaps it would be good to have the same on PC?

I don’t believe it’s an option, unless I can change the CSS of the standard theme…not sure I am allowed to….even if I knew how. I’ll have a look.

That’s interesting! For me Firefox and Edge display the same as Chrome, not like yours (see screenshots below). I am sure that in some of the previous versions there was clear distinction between seen and unseen threads. Also interesting is that in the pinned side menu the difference is also clear (bottom screenshot). It’s only on the main page with no sidebar that the font looks the same.

Doram I loaded up chrome and this is what I get.

I checked and the forum colour code for highlight is #111 which is Black…and unread is grey. Chrome seems not to be interpreting the #111 command as black??

As for changing highlight colours the developers were all for the opposite and making it less noticeable and people were going yeah, kool…. So whatever we believe eminently sensible….there will be as many that think otherwise. I looked at changing the text colour of bolded items, but I have no idea how to do that. Might try some other themes…..

As chrome does everything else as it should, I’m inclined to think that front page problem is down to Chrome, especially as it’s OK in 2 other browsers…nah I take that back, it’s OK in firefox, edge suffers the same fate.

Thanks @DavecUK. I have no clue why Chrome doesn’t see it as black in the main screen but displays fine on the sidebar - I am not that technical.

Also strange that you see something different than me on FF. I have now checked my work PC and it’s not looking like yours even on FF (so not a machine-specific issue for me).

It’s not a biggie - after opening the first thread I look at the sidebar anyway, and on the main page I can identify the unseen threads by looking at the unread messages counter - I just thought I’d mention it in case you or anyone else was interested.

A bit weird to my taste: the read messages font is bolder and more prominent than the un-read messages. In case you don’t see the same, here is a screenshot:

P.S. 1 the message write box is now narrower - is that intentional?

P.S. 2 A space was added after the apostrophe in “don’t”. I thought I made a mistake so went to Edit to delete it, but it’s not there!

P.S. 4 - the extra space isn’t there on mobile. And the plot thickens…

I removed all themes except the default Flarum one. It seems all these people writing extensions, especially themes, have bugs they never found.

I should have listened to my self and that age-old saying…“If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” So I removed everything I had added.

On the iPad at least - using safari - getting the “like” button, and the thread text on the main page is hit and miss. Sometimes a browser refresh does it, sometimes I have to navigate away and click again into a particular thread. Does anyone have the same issues? JS asset caching policy maybe?

I found another stupid bug. I type fast and accurately and for no reason for the past week or so, I have been finding I am typing a line and all of a sudden for no reason I am at the beginning of the line typing. I then have to cut and past what I just typed to the end of the line. I couldn’t work out what was going on, was it some browser add on playing up, the cat, some weird key on the computer.

Just now I was using the delete key to remove some stuff, nothing else was being pressed, and I was at the beginning of the line deleting stuff I didn’t want to delete.

I am not convinced there is a bug in the Pusher extension, Pusher is the thing that does this, , I suspect because I have the side window open, every time there is an updated post, and I am typing at the same time, it flings me to the beginning of the line. I still remain constantly amazed at how extensions with these type of bugs slip through

The updated discussions thing is on the main all discussions page as well.

The extension uses the Pusher service on the web. Ever since I signed up for the “free” package, they have become my best friends with 2 emails a day telling me I need to upgrade as I am approaching the limits of the free service and if I don’t, no one will see updates. With the yellow box replacing the refresh ring, that would be irritating and force users to refresh the entire tab.

Their pricing plan is ambitious, to say the least and at 49 usd monthly, an upgrade is never going to happen

I think with the 2 emails I get every day, they should rename the service to pushy.

I was going to remove it anyway, because the constant 2 emails, per day and threat of it stopping irritated me, as did the ridiculous cost of the most basic package. Especially as Pusher disabled the refresh icon/function!

Yep. That typing bug is extremely annoying. At times I thought to myself… What on earth am I doing wrong? But, glad to confirm it’s a silly bug. Hope it gets squashed. :-)
