dfk41 I was merely making the point that if in computing terms, new technology comes out, then who in their right mind buys something with far less advanced technology (ignoring traditional lever machines).

But you are still assuming people are making fully informed, rational choice. I do not believe this will be the case in the near future.

CoyoteOldMan What the timer may do is to stop pressure (as in: stop the pump).

Which would allow you to the “blooming” phase. Would be nice to have.

pjw The pre-infussion timer, this will measure the time, or will be able to “release” the lever in automatic way to start the spring driven extraction under full pressure?

The preinfusion timer is purely to record the time you have to release the lever from the crooked position manually. Anything else would be far too dangerous.

When you make subsequent shots you can look at the prev shots preinfusion time and replicate, or adjust more/less according to taste.

The lever can only auto vent and stop the shot during the brew phase.

dfk41 It helps when you actually design and manufacture the machine you sell in your own factory.

I try to be rational but I couldn’t face the Russian word “Vostok” on my espresso machine every morning. I think of what’s being done to Ukraine often enough as it is.

I suppose, however, that ACS would supply the machine without a name on the front.

    I wouldn’t worry too much.

Decent De1pro v1.45 - Niche Duo - Niche Zero - Decent is the best machine ever made -

mathof2 Well I am sure the designer of the Vostok 1 capsule (Yuri Gagarins vehicle) Sergei Korolev (a Ukrainian) will be pleased, because it was made for the USSR not Russia or Putin.

He was a giant of Modern aeronautics, who for many years, like Turing was largely unrecognised because the USA tried to have him assassinated. I think partly due to the space race and Korolevs undoubted lead over what they were doing (with the help of Werner Von Braun)

He is on the left in this Ukranian stamp. Perhaps you should be honoured to have his name on a machine and recognise his significant achievements.

DavecUK will be pleased, because it was made for the USSR

Sure… Communist regime that killed millions. Holodomor in Ukraine. Occupied half of Europe for 50 years.

pjw I’m just playing the man, not the ball….Otherwise we would still be moaning about the Romans, and “what did they ever do for us”

Or any of the great scientists because they came from a country considered “bad”.

Or those who should have achieved greatness like Tommy Flowers, without whome I am certain Colossus could have never been built. I think he even used some of his own money.

For more on the 3 group machine, from a while back, see:

and with regards to the name of the machine, straight from Paolo and Antonio, at 5:56.

Personally, I prefer the black frame and side panels.
The metal tips on the wooden handles don’t do it for me.
          Custom handles should be easy.

Amberale The handles come 3 ways (wood is extra) at the moment, black, Olive Wood, and metal tipped wood. I like black machines as well.

DavecUK Otherwise we would still be moaning about the Romans, and “what did they ever do for us”

Well, Romans are history (we always touch Londinium when we talk about levers, don’t we) ;) . Survivors of CCCP regime are still with us. Millions of Ukrainians are now suffering because the Soviet imperialism is still a dream of most of the Russians.

The more far away people are from the border (Italy, UK) the less people understand, care and show empathy to their neighbors. And I can understand this. But still you won’t convince me that soviet spacecraft is the proper name for espresso machine in November 2022.

And sorry for the off topic. Just do not offer this beautiful machine in soviet red finish ;)

I am afraid we are getting into emotional and traumatic minefields. Some strong statements here. I wish you have avoided making them. Before passions and emotions take the better of us, let’s draw a line.

pjw Londinium when we talk about levers, don’t we

The L is an inevitable part of the lever story. We can’t avoid, while at the same time people have strong personal views based on their own personal experiences - good or bad. Healthy discussions and challenging the merits and demerits are good, provided we respect the person as an individual.

pjw But still you won’t convince me that soviet spacecraft is the proper name for espresso machine in November 2022.

I can understand if folks have strong reservations! I am not too fuzzed about the name. As a sales director, I may have a different take.

If some body doesn’t like the name, they may request Paolo to remove the label. If that’s not possible, oh well, the prospect may have a difficult choice to make! :-)

Bottom line - it is a beautiful machine! 👏
