Decent De1pro v1.45 - Niche Duo - Niche Zero - Decent is the best machine ever made -

Cuprajake i dont think we need to get into that stuff here, we cant go getting upset over stuff like this

I completely agree, hence why people can “silently” choose what they do and don’t want to buy if it’s simply based on a name, rather than functions, performance, specification or looks..

I seem to recall a bunch of Brits on another platform ridiculing a Greek Mythological name for a prototype on the basis that is was used in the UK for a bargain chain.

When folks are thinking of names for their products they can’t always consider every niche concern.

      Amberale - Exactly.

Specially when unfortunate things happen many years after naming it.

Example… The name of the River Thames as it flows through Oxford…. It became a bit “controversial” a few years ago.

Amberale I just had a Eureka moment and realised you were talking about the Argos lever. I could imagine reading your post on a Vectis transport bus in the Isle of white. Or a female commercial pilot called Elizabeth, considering airport minima before taking off for Elysium via Vesuvius. Perhaps even a Spaniard in Ukraine contemplating a rocket, before going back to his appartemento.

          Some very sensitive souls around.
Over here in Oz we are having a lot of name changes for parks/roads/suburbs etc as the truth of our colonial forebears is exposed. (slavers, massacres etc) and plain racist terminology in some cases.

My personal take is if a name offends a group of people then change it.
It is not a big enough issue to get worked up about.

Amberale case in point is the “knob” grinder.

Then was Chevrolet who wondered why the sales in Spain from the launch of their new Chevvy “Nova” (Spanish for “not going”) fell flat 🤔 🙄 😳

CoyoteOldMan - in Spanish speaking Latin America (e.g.: excluding Brazil) the aforementioned vehicle was renamed to Montero. I’m surprised marketing departments don’t think of the basics sometimes!

DavecUK Somehow, it doesn’t sound quite as nice. Though I can assure you that caffé Segafredo got its fair amount of sniggers from us kids.
