I would be grateful for some advice on an issue with my Quick Mill Verona 2B.
It was bought by the first owner from BB in 2014 who looked after it immaculately. Before sale to me in early 2022, he had a full service and descale with a local commercial espresso machine company. When it arrived, I noted that the Gicar settings had been reset to Quick Mill factory spec. So first thing, I changed them to the BB manual recommended settings, as advised by DaveC. I backflush weekly and use PulyCaff monthly. It is tank water supply model.
A few months on, the Verona has performed perfectly and the pump is superbly quiet. Brew pressure set to 9 BAR and was spot on steady. But I noticed that recently, when I switched on the steam boiler, there was a constant water dripping and gurgling noise through the little black nozzle into the right of the drip tray, which ceased when the steam boiler got up to temp. Also the brew pressure sometimes had what it is best described as ‘hiccups’ when the pressure stutters between 8-9 bar when brewing an espresso. I could live with all that.
More recently, I have noticed that the brew pressure rose to 11 bar (from 9 Bar) when measured both brewing and with a blank disc. Strangely, I tried adjusting the pressure down through the easily accessed screw in the side of the case, but even half a turn or a full turn clockwise made no difference to the reading on the pressure gauge? There is no evidence of water leak under the machine.
I maintained my ECM Giotto Classic for some years, so am happy to investigate inside (safely and with power disconnected of course) but haven’t opened it up yet.
Would welcome any diagnostic tests I could run to narrow down the issue.
Thank you
Jonathan
