Quick question. Can you do a blooming style espresso with the Vostok’s feature set? I know you can control the overall shot time/ending pressure, but can the pump be cut during pre-infusion to allow for blooming?

It’s not part of the Vostok feature set. I guess it could be programmed into the firmware as an option, but not really sure of the functions value.

DavecUK thanks. Yeah it seems like a big deal for Decent owners for light roasts, but the Vostok can already do a lot with preinfusion so perhaps it doesn’t need it. I’m just curious because I have a Vostok on order and mostly drink light roasts.

DavecUK good to know. I saw someone say they struggled with light roasts on the vostok which surprised me because I figured it should be able to do quite well with light roasts.

SpacemanSpiff Like Evo, the Vostok will handle lighter and acidic coffee with ease. We mainly drink light and medium-light at home with Kenyan as the favourite. We set 92C/93C on the group and 98/99C for the brew boiler for the light and medium-light.

SpacemanSpiff All I really drink is light these days, and have yet to have a shot I couldn’t dial in / extract well on the Vostok.

IDK if this will give you the results you want, but for the blooming shot -You could just set preinfusion pressure low and just leave the lever down for a while before raising it to full pressure.

The 3 buttons and the touchscreen lcd look like they may be blocked with a more traditional brew wand. Other than maintenance, I don’t think I will ever use the wand. So its a tough choice on finding what would be less annoying. A short wand that may get in the way, or a large wand that can can be moved out of the way?

Ask ACS to fit a different wand and take a photo, especially with them trying to press the buttons. I think it will be OK, as the valve body is a commercial one and pokes out a decent amount.

I opted for the spider wands. I could have went with the small steam wand and long brew wand, but didn’t want the Vostok to walk like an Egyptian.

No, have them do it in the factory, especially if you order powder coat, as you will damage the panel.
