Not far off - I bought two LSM groups from CoffeeParts about 5 years ago @ AUD900 each which they admittedly underquoted on - and were selling in the US at the time for about USD1000.

It’s sad that more groups make a machine look even more sexier

I am sort of toying with the idea of a one group Vostok and even that might not fit in the kitchen.
This would have to go in the shed/pool room but is lots cheaper than a one group.

Amberale Strange how these things work out, isn’t it? Is the price on the bull negotiable too? 😁

(The good thing is you can switch groups off if not needed - the not-so-good thing is that I think it still uses only two boilers, so you will need a 30A spur into the pool room just for that, if not a 3-phase connection)

A related question to Denis’s detailed explanation would be in the case of Vostok’s automatic shots.

How does the pressure profile work in the automatic mode?

Is it pre-loaded or the software intelligently mimics to calculate the pressure profile per puck? I have been wondering how would it possible in the auto mode as the lever is never used.

What bar pressure does the auto mode achieve vs the manual spring lever ?

You guys would have pulled loads of shots in either mode. How did the cup compare? Thx

I don’t believe that the Vostok has “Pressure Profiles” or “automatic shots”.
My understanding is that the shot is run as normal using the spring but is ended by a solenoid opening a valve to release the pressure totally when either a time or a pressure is reached depending on whether either choice is selected.
It does this in a controlled manner so it does not break jaws. ;)

Exactly right.

Amberale I think it has come from the experience with the EVO (and possibly commercial Vostoks) that stopping a shot a a certain pressure will give a consistent output ratio.

It came about from my direct experience with the Alpha Evo (now deceased). Pressure is a very accurate indicater of weight of espresso extracted and works for slightly varying grind levels (diff coffees), tamping pressures and puck prep.

It’s just an automated end feature. Like old school volumetric.

So if you’re doing everything the same day in a cafe you can set it to kill a shot at 7bar and not worry about over running.

I’ve found that once you get past 7bar on the Evo the flow quickens and you don’t want to drink that stuff.

The machine for me is 10-8 or 10-7 bar roast/bean dependant

Agree re-7 bars. It is very rare I go until 6. I was tasting the Kenyan with 6 vs 7 bars. I prefer the 7 than 6 as the former is a lot smoother.

Dave, expanding on this…. Would you be able to elaborate more, and how a spring lever extraction would differ from a programmed machine such as the Vesuvius in terms of flavour in the cup and the mechanics in terms of the dynamics behind and through the puck? For the sake of the argument, let’s assume the machines in question had the same group size and same coffee baskets, and that the programmed machine would be configured to a “lever” profile.
