Non-alcohol beer

Ok so I know it’s almost an oxymoron but I was in the supermarket last week and saw a huge selection of non-alcohol beer.

I’ve been thinking about cutting out/down on alcohol but as a big fan of craft beer, it’s not been the most appealing idea.

I ordered some this weekend in our grocery shop and was pleasantly surprised. The one I ordered wasn’t available so they sent the Estrella ‘Free Damm’.

Has anyone else tried any that weren’t too bad?

Ernie1 I have found FreeDamm one of the better options.

Bravaria is pretty good, but in smaller quantities.

My favourite is Venture Point Five from Nethergate.

If you like lager Heineken also tastes OK for a nonalcholic beer.

If you are looking for craft beer breweries Brulo, big drop and mash gang are all recommendations from my brewery friends. They have some interesting styles of beer but they can get a bit pricey

Most of the big name lager brands now do AF beer, some are better than others so it’s worth trying a few to see what you like. I now only tend to drink AF beer as I figure it’s better for me and cheaper and is still nice and refreshing when ice cold. Yes it tastes slightly different if you taste back to back with standard beer but if it’s all you drink then it’s a decent substitute.

Thanks everyone! Some great suggestions.

Long story short, I became rather keen on some of the high-strength and high-price DIPA/TIPA from breweries like Verdant, Deya and Howling Hops. At 8%+ and sometime £6+ a can, I was noticing the impact on my waistline and my wallet!

To be honest it’ll just be nice to have a ‘soft’ drink to have with dinner etc that isn’t Coca Cola.

The AF Ghost Ship is quite reasonable. I tried the AF hazy Jane and it was ok, but nothing special (although I’m a big fan of the full strength version, so perhaps it was an expectation issue).

Generally I find the alcohol free beers lack some body vs real beer, but as an option when you can’t or don’t want to drink alcohol they’re much nicer than most fizzy drinks.
