Recently my V2 has started making a 60 cycle hum (US model) when pulling shots. Sometimes very loud, sometimes quieter. If I flip the shot lever up down up, it will often stop. It never happens if the HX button is not enabled.

  1. Time for descaling? Is there some junk (lime [yeh, it’s pretty clean water, but not DI etc]) caught in the valve? Would a nice citric acid bath help?
  2. Or does the solenoid need replacing? It seems to be part of the whole big valve assembly so this might be tricky. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

You don’t need HX on for domestic use, it’s there to increase capacity for commercial use.

There will be something in the solenoid preventing it seating properly, so they buzz. Open solenoid and clean.

Hey Dave,

Just found this thread think it might be my issue also.

Would you have a pic of solenoid? Or is there multiple?

How would you suggest cleaning it?

Regards

I’d really like to see a video with sound otherwise we could write lots of stuff, you could fix things that arn’t broke and spend more money than you need to. Its unfortunate that the person with the problem never cam back and updated us on what fixed it.

The solenoid simply looks like an autofill solenoid…sort of like this.

Hi Dave, my machine has been going great… until the screen ha gone blank. It’s on, just blank… I’ve tried to make sure both ends of both ribbon cable are in securely but still no joy. Also I recently had a power issue where as the powered plug from the wall has started to warp and so has the socket it goes into. The spade bits on the back of it have also discoloured and brittle. I am thinking it’s just the years of heating up several times a day…

Can I buy these replacement parts?

    Many thanks

dougyea The power plug should not get hot - the fact that it has been indicates that their has been arcing due to a poor connection. Could have been caused by a loose plug or loose female spade connectors. If I remember correctly, ACS use C13/C14 for the connection which id arguably not the best choice - C15/C16 is better suited for the current and use case. If you are swapping them out anyway that’s what I would choose.

      5 statements or questions.

1, Could be the screen has failed, that’s unfortunate as it’s not a cheap part. It must be said that it’s unusual for these to fail? Perhaps check that ribbon cable again. If you do order a display, then definitely order a ribbon cable with it, just in case.

      2. Do you mean the actual plug that goes into the wall socket?

      3. Is this the socket on the machine, or the wall?

      4. Presumably the socket on the machine, if so, age might yellow them, but they are in a cool area, so shouldn’t go brittle unless it’ a VERY early machine (what year was it made). Check for scorch marks as it might be arcing due to a poor connection. If it’s an early machine it might be arcing in the fuse holder

      5. All parts can be purchased from ACS, but depending on the age of your machine the connector for the kettle type lead might well be different now, and I don’t know if it will fit in the same hole…it might.

You can also hard wire the machine and bypass all this stuff.

Hey Dave, it’s about 7-8 years old

Yes I think I might just hard wire it, it has from time to time needed a wiggle on the plug to make it come on. Sounds like a poor connection/hot joint.

Luck for me the screen has come back to life this morning? It went off a while back as well not sure what’s happening??

        Thanks again!!

dougyea Definitely a bad connection causing arcing and overheating. As for the screen, I’m pretty sure it’s a bad connection, or possibly (not sure) a cable gone bad.

Screen is off again and has been for a few days. Where do you buy the ribbon cables from? I’ll try that and then the screen if all else fails…

            Cheers

dougyea As ACS to send you one, it should be able to go in an ordinary envelope taped to a card to keep the postage cost down and should not be too expensive.

It might also be a bog standard type which you can buy in the UK…ACS would advise, the exact type and length if you ask them.

e.g. something like this…female to female…or whatever it is, for a few pounds I’ll try and check one of mine later.

DavecUK I checked my cable and it’s 8 pin female (2 rows of 4) to 1 row of 6 pin flat connector (female). Only 6 of the cables are used, two have been cut away…so it looks like Gicar made a bespoke cable config for this item.
