MediumRoastSteam dutchy101 - can you take a photo of the “best before” label? Even though he label reads “best before”, are you sure it doesn’t have both?
dutchy101 MediumRoastSteam Not now. Its in the bin. Decanted the coffee into vacuum bags. Not too worried to be honest - they’ve always been good from past experience
capuchin I think it indicated on their website that they are roasted on the day of order, so not too worried about that. https://www.smithstreetcoffeeroasters.co.uk/post/shipping-info It doesn’t say it explicitly, but ‘we roast and ship 6 days a week’ sounds like they roast to order. @MediumRoastSteam I can take photos for you. More annoyed that the 1.6kg bags dont have degassing.
capuchin Just checked my bags, and they DO have a roast date of 29th November on them, as well as a ‘best before’ of 02/23 and the 1600g marker. Interesting that the smaller bags come with degassing thingies.
MediumRoastSteam capuchin - thanks. dfk41 rang them this week to query one or two things. They just put a best before date on and do not put a batch date so no one has idea as to when they were roasted So to put an end to it, looks like whoever informed @dfk41 was wrong, as they do place a roast date on their bags. 👍
dfk41 MediumRoastSteam My label has been done in a hurry then as you can just see the start of some numbers, but, they do not have a batch date so in the event of a problem have no idea
MediumRoastSteam dfk41 - I see what you mean. However, they do have a roast date - but yeah, they were poorly printed so the date got printed on top of the “best before” red text - I can barely make out “26 Nov”, I think, followed by “250 g”.
dfk41 MediumRoastSteam It is only when you photo and zoom in you see the numbers covered by Best before…it is not a big deal as I have never had bad coffee from them, but when I rang and spoke to ollie, he said they do not put on a batch number or roasted on date. I have only just photographed it. I will check the other bag tomorrow but from memory, that has no label at all!
Waitforme They need to sort their labelling for roast and best before dates. When I got the first delivery from them I too thought there was no roast date but on closer inspection realised it was hidden in small print on the small label.
