Just got this through on email….Smith St are adding 60% to their kilo bags…1 ton sale, until sold out apparently.

Anyone tried their coffee? This is about 38% off, but I've never tried them before so went for Craft House Coffee yesterday at 35% off, as I've tended to enjoy their coffee.

I’ve had their coffee previously but am passing on this offer, 1.6kg is just too much of the same bean, I like to swap about a bit.

Yes, it's too much of a leap of faith for me. If the deal had been for 40% extra on the 250g bags, I'd have given this new-to-me roaster a go. 1\.6Kg of an unknown coffee is a bit of a gamble even from a favourite roaster, and, as you say, a change of coffee every now and then is good.

I've enjoyed everything I've had from them. I've just bought a 1.6 kg bag of the Chazez. I've also bought a KG of 3 other beans over the last few weeks and have close to 2kg in the freezer already. I'll be mixing these up for sure and think I'm good for the next few months now.

Haha - a fool and their money…..

I ordered from them. Arrived today, No degassing valves as far as I can see, on over 3kg of coffee…

I rang them this week to query one or two things. They just put a best before date on and do not put a batch date so no one has idea as to when they were roasted. I have never had a problem with their stuff but I thought a batch or identification number was mandatory so stock could be traced?

MediumRoastSteam My label has been done in a hurry then as you can just see the start of some numbers, but, they do not have a batch date so in the event of a problem have no idea

dfk41 - I see what you mean. However, they do have a roast date - but yeah, they were poorly printed so the date got printed on top of the “best before” red text - I can barely make out “26 Nov”, I think, followed by “250 g”.

MediumRoastSteam It is only when you photo and zoom in you see the numbers covered by Best before…it is not a big deal as I have never had bad coffee from them, but when I rang and spoke to ollie, he said they do not put on a batch number or roasted on date. I have only just photographed it. I will check the other bag tomorrow but from memory, that has no label at all!

They need to sort their labelling for roast and best before dates.

When I got the first delivery from them I too thought there was no roast date but on closer inspection realised it was hidden in small print on the small label.
