Has anyony been watching The Outlaws writen by Stephen Merchant?
I know anything is subjective, but I do wonder if some so called ‘critics’ just say stuff to justify their job title.
I’m not sure why they think the humour relies on the Bristol accents (which by the way is quite funny) - they must be missing a lot of the lines and situations that often make me laugh out loud. Also it’s great that this series is taking a bit of a non-PC risk in showing characters that are mainly decent people doing something very bad - how far will people go for a good reason ? It also comments on modern day issues of drugs, social media, different cultures, sexism etc. That’s why there’s so many story lines and why an hour per episode is needed and works fine.
Merchant is a funny guy and his comic timing amd phyical comedy is brilliant - standing up in the nightclub and getting caught in the light fitting had me laughing out loud - All the characters are different and great in their own way… especially the work supervisor who so desperately wants to be a real policewoman. As for Christopher Walken… maybe acting he could do in his sleep, but his character also works.
I’m guessing the reviewers just don’t get it and should maybe stick to watching CBBC.
Given the issues it is attempting to tackle I believe with pathos and humour thrown in, even if for some the most controversial thing on it was seeing Christopher Walken painting over a real Banksy…. I give it a definite thumbs up.
