Lelit E Runs 11+ BAR on Shot 1, then Always Lower (9.5BAR) on Shot 2 ??

On my first shots of the day, having turned on my Lelit E, the first shot always runs more or less where I set the OPV, which is at 11+ BAR using a blind basket. I also typically get this 11+ BAR with my go to City Roast Decaf coffee, set at 11.0 grind on my NZ and 96C. Flow is in range, at about 40 seconds for my 18.0 in to 31.5g out shot. Invariably shot 2 pours at 9+ bar with the same flow.

Then I turn off the machine. And later that morning (or the next morning) I turn it back on for another set of shots. The same BAR reduction occurs.

This occurs every time. Has this happened to you? Any particular reason for this?

Fyi, I have a very slight drip from my steam wand, but this should not have an impact. I will get around to fixing that someday (after I peruse the net for a repair video) ….

The problem may be the OPV. I replaced mine when I had the Liz and it sorted it out. It was provided FOC by the retailer after a bit of badgering.

Took me more than a full ½ hour to read through the thread. Seems like quite afew people were affected and some got quite fussed. I feel bady for @DavecUK , who kind of got caught in the middle of it all, and did his best to help. Kudos to Dave for being patient with everyone and staying cool.

@DavecUK If I’m going to swap out my OPV for another, it would be great to find one that (in combination with the Lelit hose routings) is more fully and easily adjustable. I have managed to get pressure down to 7 BAR and up to 11 BAR with a blind basket, but it required shifting some houses around a bit to do so, and avoid hose crimping or twisting. I’d love to find an OPV setup that is easier to adjust and is not as prone to corrosion.

I’ll also have a chat with my retailer about solutions, as they have likely deal with it before. They are very service oriented and about a ½ hours drive away.

In the interim, I’ll just: a) set my OPV about 1 BAR higher than I want, then run a blind basket shot before running my espresso shots.

Guess now I’m going to have to rerun all my paired shot tests. 😁

JHCCoffee My understanding of the matter is that the ‘old’ model of OPV has a design problem, as it gets stuck in a ‘harder to open’ position when the machine cools, until it is used again. It is nothing to do with its adjustability, or the adjustability of its replacement.

I would also argue that a machine like the Elizabeth is not the ‘right’ machine for that sort of tinkering - it’s compact, highly automated and optimised for certain parameters (e.g. pressure), but…
